Re: Porfolio Advice

The article that you pulled that graph from says that a Roth is good for those who expect to stay in a high tax bracket and/or move up in tax brackets however. I'm not sure this is as black and white as you are making it out to be. The devil is in the details ... do the math when you have time ... ...

Re: Porfolio Advice

No you're correct, I didn't read bill's post closely enough. There's peril of trying to do this while also writing something at work. No worries, mate. That's why we post our ideas in this forum, right ...? This is my first job post-law school and I anticipate tax rates being higher in the coming d...

Re: Porfolio Advice

Contributions: I can fully fund both the Roth 401K and the Roth IRA (via the backdoor). In the 28% tax bracket, I think most people would suggest that you use traditional IRA instead of Roth IRA I would agree with the others & max out your tax deductible 401k. I already am maxing out the 401K. ...

Re: Porfolio Advice

Any thoughts on allocation %'s for the various funds in each account? I noticed that you said you would have a bond fund in the 401K. I would much rather be in 100% stock and REIT's at this stage in my life considering I've got a 40-45 year horizon. There are many of us (certainly not all) who beli...

Re: Porfolio Advice

You can't contribute to a traditional (tax deductible) IRA if a single filer's modified adjustable gross income (MAGI) is over $71k (it starts to phase out at $61k) and your employer offers a retirement plan (401k, 403b, pension, etc). I would agree with the others & max out your tax deductible...

That's going to be a question of state law. And why you need to talk to an attorney.

Re: Will / Beneficiaries

So we both needs wills? I was making one and it basically was if I die I leave it to her. If she also died I leave it to someone else. She would also need a will even if everything we own is co-owned and we covered her death in my will? Ok Great. But I do have a home paid off (No Kids). That would ...

Re: Will / Beneficiaries

Ok Great. But I do have a home paid off (No Kids). That would need to will for me to leave that to someone if my spouse also did not survive right? I hear stories some states may take property if there is no will filed. A will is always a good idea if you do not want your property to be subject to ...

Re: Porfolio Advice

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a Roth better if you anticipate having a higher or equal tax rate in retirement? I think it is highly likely that this will be true, especially considering career outlook and the political direction of the country. If the tax rate is the same in retirement as now, ...

Re: Porfolio Advice

Ok. Then you still need to consider that traditional 401k is likely to be your better choice. There is no sense in paying 28% on money that you could pay 25% or 15% on if you defer taxes. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't a Roth better if you anticipate having a higher or equal tax rate in retireme...

Re: Porfolio Advice

In the 28% tax bracket, I think most people would suggest that you use traditional IRA instead of Roth IRA. And with high interest rates, I think you should consider putting more toward the loans and investing a little less. If you use traditional 401k, that would be almost another $5k to put towar...

Re: Do I professional liability insurance?

You should never assume that an attorney hired by your employer is looking out for your interests if your interests might be in conflict with your employer. Can you give an example of when an employee's and employer's interests might diverge? Here's a possible scenario: Employer provides a car for ...

Re: Do I professional liability insurance?

I'm of the theory that the liability of what we do at work is borne by the employer, as my activity is for their benefit (profit) and I'm doing work at their request. In your opinion, is this an incorrect way of looking at it? I don't think this is incorrect, but it may be incomplete. Any coverage ...

Re: Do I professional liability insurance?

As with all things legal the answer is that it depends. Are you actually an employee or an independent contractor? Will respondeat superior apply? Civil or criminal? What legal theory and cause if action is the plaintiff operating under? Etc. I will say that your second paragraph is the reason peopl...

Re: alleged pharmacist malpractice- does wife need a lawyer?

I would imagine several things: 1) The store insurance policy probably protects the employees from potential lawsuits in their line of business. If so, the store's insurance would hire an attorney to defend her if she was sued for work that she did in the course of the line of work. This attorney w...
