Medallion Signature guarantee?

My mother recently passed away and I am the executor of her estate. She held some stock in an individual account that I need to transfer to an estate account prior to distribution to the heirs. Unfortunately, I need to get a medallion signature guarantee on the forms requesting the transfer to the e...

Re: Value of an Elite MBA

Everyone, I am blown away by the thoughtful responses, and really thankful for you all taking the time. I'll try to address some comments in turn. I'm an MIT MBA from the 1990's. I can honestly say that every single alum I'm in contact with considered their time at MIT to be life changing and absol...

Re: Value of an Elite MBA

I'm an MIT MBA from the 1990's. I can honestly say that every single alum I'm in contact with considered their time at MIT to be life changing and absolutely worth the time and expense. I have never heard anyone voice regrets over attending.

Tulum? [Mexico]

My family is planning a spring break 2018 trip to Tulum (mom, dad, 14YO boy, 10 YO girl). Any suggestions on where to stay and what to do? Thanks!

Re: Merrill Edge account being closed/Vanguard Flagship transfer

Merrill gave me three options in the letter that told me they were closing my account: 1. They could cash out everything and send me a check 2. They could send me the stock certificates for all my holdings (this is the default option) 3. They could transfer the assets wherever I want (my preferred o...

Merrill Edge account being closed/Vanguard Flagship transfer

I just received a notice that Merrill Edge was closing my account. No reason was given, but I assume it's because I haven't been trading enough (and generating fees for them). I plan to transfer the assets in my Merrill Edge account into my existing Vanguard Flagship account. Has anyone done this be...

Re: Seattle and Vancouver with kids

If you are an active family here are a couple of other ideas: 1. Lake Union electric boat rental: https://theelectricboatco.com/ 2. Lake Washington ship canal kayak rental: http://aguaverde.com/ Rent two double kayaks, with a kid in the front and an adult in the back. It's a very safe and fun way to...

Re: My Megacorp offered a pension lump sum option today...

My benefit statement refers to the Pension Value Plan and only shows one number (with a caveat that it includes the "heritage benefit"). Although I have 23 years with the company, I did leave for a while and returned to the mother ship in 2001.

Re: My Megacorp offered a pension buyout today...

I'm a 23 year employee of the same "Things with Wings" company in Seattle. I just turned 55, so this thread is of great interest to me. I went to the company's retirement planning web site and looked up my pension payout as a single annuity and a lump sum, assuming I retired in mid-2016. I then plug...
