Re: Roll Call for the Retirement Class of 2017!

I will be retired from the US army after 21 years of service. It has been a wonderful and challenging time. But it is time to hang it up. My last day will be sometime in December. I do not know what the future holds, but I am optimistic. Thank you Bogleheads for helping to prepare me and my DW for t...

I have close to 1 million in investable assets and a paid of home, and I am confident about retirement. Our daughter starts college in the Fall using the Post 91...

Re: New Military Blended Retirement System starting in 2018

Gator15 Thanks for all you do in talking to soldiers about saving and investing. I do the same. When I was a First Sergeant I would ask new soldiers if they were enrolled in the TSP, some were, but many more were not. I was able to influence some to sign up for the TSP and that really made me feel a...

Gator15, You have not met me, I am that guy. I will not be looking for employment once I retire. Just hit 20 years in the Army and I will retire in 2018. I am 53 and joined the army at 34. Currently, I max the Roth TSP and have been doing so for years. With catch up contributions I am putting away $...

Re: TSP to First Command

Amateurnovice I forgot to add that I serve in the military, U.S. army. I have never had any finanancial relationship with FC but they hounded me for a while many years ago, but I resisted and started investing in the TSP. However, I have influenced and advised many service members to leave First Com...

Re: TSP to First Command

I strongly advise that you do not enter into any financial relationship with First Command, especially a transfer of your TSP funds. Take a look in this forum's Wiki regarding military finances; it specifically states that people should stay away from First Command. A quick Google check will show yo...

Lucky3, Do not get discouraged, you can do this. Get fired up and pumped up starting today. Do not allow yesterday or past mistakes to become weights that stop you from taking action today that will lead to a happier future self. Again, you can do it. I am in the Army and have been for almost 20 yea...

RoadHouseFan,

We are also a military family, with only one income for most my military career. We are not at the million dollar mark yet, but it is within sight. That gave me the confidence to submit my retirement request last month. Great job and more success to you.

Re: Debt Free [Investment help for deployed airman]

As a fellow military member, army, I congratulate you for saving and investing at this early age. I joined the army at 34 and did not find Bogleheads until I was about 48 years old. As a young military member you are likely to come across people or financial companies that will tell you that they ca...

Hi bogleheads, I am a long time lurker but this is my first post. I am in the Army, I bought a BMW 325i brand new in 2002 while stationed in Germany. I picked the car up from Pentagon Car Sales in Heidelberg. I still have the car today and it only has 39,000 miles. Geronkas. When two elephants fight...
