Re: planned outage for software update

It's done.

I woke up in the wee hours of this morning and, since this is the low point in board traffic, I did the update without so much as a "by your leave." Sorry for the interruption but it seemed like the right thing to do.

Now, back to bed.

planned outage for software update

I need to bounce the web server to install a new version of PHP. It usually takes about 10 minutes. I'd like to do that Monday morning, probably around 9:00 AM Eastern.

I want to apply some tuning changes to the database server configuration.

They require restarting the database server process.

I plan to do this on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at 8:00 AM EDT.

It should take less than 10 minutes.

We're going to "watch it" for a little while and may make one more change but we won't do that before tonight.

I'm updating service for our Internet provider. The changes require changes to the IP address block we've been assigned. The host wil not be down but the address in DNS will change. I've set the 'time to live' down to 60 seconds so it shouldn't be too bad.

I am on-site. The problem is affecting all of the hosts in the computer center. The bogleheads.org server is largely idle so that's not part of the problem. I believe it's a network DoS attack but I haven't identified the culprit(s).
