Re: how do you make your home smell good?

I don't know about good, but I have an ozone generator that eliminates all odors. It's been essential to me as my apartment doesn't have an effective hood over the stove and the window is pretty far from the kitchen.

I will also probably remain single. I'm concerned about what to do when I get up there in age, or can no longer take care of myself.

Can an HOA levy a transfer fee without a vote?

I received an email from someone who owns a town home in the same community I do. It reads: "I have a closing on my townhouse next week and learned yesterday that our board has decided to levy a $2500 transfer fee, paid by the seller, for any unit that is sold. That means your unit is worth unit is ...

Am I spending too much on rent?

I am currently renting an 850sqf 1bed/1bath apartment in a Maryland DC suburb. I pay about $1800 a month for rent/water/trash/and a parking spot ($25 a month). My take home pay after maxing out my work retirement account and HSA is $5200 a month. I've rented in other parts of the country, but I'm no...

Upgrade to Pixelbook Go?

Does anyone have experience with this kind of chromebook? I'm interested in the model with the least memory, but I can't find a floor model near me where I can see it in person. I've been using a $300 Acer chromebook I got at Costco for the last 3 years. I spend multiple hours a day everyday using t...

Re: Healthcare post COVID-19

I'm hoping Amazon or another company with the means breaks into the health insurance game. If they came out with something like a $200 a month $3000 deductible plan that was as easy to purchase as anything else online, wouldn't this be a viable option for a lot of people? And if they were successful...

Using Taxable Account Money to Buy a House

I am planning on moving back to my home town in roughly 10-12 years. At that time I would like to purchase a house outright with cash. In the mean time I plan on buying $1000 of VTSAX every two weeks in a taxable account after maxing out TSP/Roth IRA/HSA contributions with the intention of using thi...

Re: Should I buy a new rice cooker from Zojirushi?

We use an instant pot for rice. Brown rice, white rice, risotto. Also steel cut oats most mornings. It works great, it perfectly consistent, is scaleable, is very easy. Rice cookers are nice but Instant Pots are cheap and much more versatile. Can you make biryani in a rice cooker? Mashed potatoes? ...

Re: Should I buy a new rice cooker from Zojirushi?

Brown rice needs a little more water. Try that first. I have the model you are thinking about getting, but I wish I had the first model you already have. All I use it for is to cook rice, so a lot of the extra features go unused. And the first model looks way easier to clean and takes up less counte...

Very little unless asked. But it can be hard to not say anything sometimes. The other day in a text group a few of my cousins were talking about using the forecasted government stimulus checks to buy marijuana ETFs because several seem be near 52 week lows. I'm not usually pushy or intrusive, but it...

How To Stay Positive When Feeling Nickle and Dimed

My favorite movie is being made into a Broadway production. NYC is only four hours away, so I thought it would be a lot of fun to to make a weekend trip out of going to see it. At the beginning of planning I was really enthusiastic about it. Now that I have finalized arrangements, I am still looking...

Re: Becoming more reclusive as I age - is it OK to be OK with it?

Maybe your social need for love and belonging is already satisfied by the family and friends you have? As long as you are happy it's all good. I can't say if this is normal or not, but I'm only 30 and I really relate to this. None of my friends or family are close to where I now live. I actually wan...

It seems a high, but does that include having to buy many appliances? When I bought my condo, I similarly wanted to try and buy quality items if I could, and where I lived there was virtually no nice second hand furniture available. I had to buy everything and spent $9000. $1400 for a metal Room and...

Thanks for all the responses. This is for a federal job. It sounds like maybe I did miss the window for salary. Matching my current pay would already be above the range listed in usajobs.gov posting. Can I Negotiate After Receiving the Official Offer for a Government Job?

Change VSMPX for VIIIX in my 401k?

I was reviewing all of the options available in my 401k today and noticed VIIIX. I'm not sure why I didn't notice it before.
