VDE vs VGENX? Why is VDE so much better?
For my parents they own both since they work in the energy sector. But I notice lately VDE is doing pretty well but VGENX has done poorly and VGENX seems to be holding much more cash. I thought they were both energy funds by vanguard and have similar investment approaches

If they have more money than they need, it's fine to stay in cash. No reason to risk & lose life savings. Cash is not risk free, it is exposed to significant inflationary risk. That is somewhat true but in the past 20 years inflation has been null. I wonder if inflation will ever come back. I i...

I notice in 2008 the market crash a lot but this pandemic seems different but it seems to fall faster than in 2008. The world was prepared for another financial crisis but it was not prepared for a pandemic because this has never happened before?

Yes I know I want to do the 5 year rule where I withdraw everything by the end of the 5th year. I don't have to do annual rmd, I can do it all at the end of the 5th year after death

I just got a notice today from custodian
they said will do a new 1099-r with a removal of excess. They will reclassify the $5000 contribution to 2018.
I was wondering if they were to do this would they properly do it? Would they do a corrected 1099-r with a $0 amount?
