The rates are current although this insurance company is not highly rated and the money is completely ill liquid. Apparently, the funds must be invested in like kind vehicles otherwise you are taxed. All of which kills the deal.

I just used 6% as a placeholder but some annuities do offer rates that are around 6%. Obviously their is risk and low liquidity.

You can buy brokered cd's at 2.9% Make no sense to pay it off.

If she has great longevity and you aren't concerned with an inheritance I would look at some life annuity contracts.

For a small PM investor I would recommend holding bullion yourself. I use bullionstacker.com I regularly buy gold and silver for close to or under spot.
