Re: Should I Dump a Pile of Money on Young Son?

Sounds like a nice, humble son. Congrats on parenting. I would not want put the 1m burden on him. He has an intense(and guaranteed) career path and is still single. Money WILL attract wrong acquaintances and worse, maybe the wrong spouse. That being said, I would talk to an expert that can minimize ...

Re: 4K Computer Monitors: 27 vs 32 inches?

I had the exact same dilemma and still have it to some extent. I have used both displays. The Apple 27 Thunderbolt display has a resolution of 2560x1440(1440p for short). The LG 5k connected to the Mac will have a native resolution of 5120x2880. Apple OS by default pixel doubles to to effectively pr...

Unless you are a target of a Nation State then physically damaging such as drilling should be a good enough measure.

Re: The Final, Definitive Thread on Brokerage Transfer Bonuses

Just reporting that I received the $1k transfer bonus from MerrillEdge. The whole process was very easy. ME makes it extremely easy to transfer assets from other brokerages. I am enjoying the 100 free trades also. Thanks to Lemongrab and other posters for all the detailed information in this thread....

Re: Taking over lease of Luxury car, good deal? Anything else to know?

As others have pointed out, you have most of the negotiating power. Current deal seems to close to new lease deal from MB. The private seller should be doing a bit more incentives. If seller did not ask for $500, covered any transfer fee and transferred the $600 maintenance plan to you then I think ...

Re: Preferred "disk cloning" software?

Clonezilla sounds like something to checkout. I have used Macrium Reflect free version and it worked fine the times I have used it. It does have a slight learning curve on how to set boot drives. Acronis is a great paid tool. I winded up buying it as it good value in auto backup/cone on installed ma...

Re: USAA 2.5% Cash Back Credit Card

Nice, I wish I was eligible to join USAA. My primary is FIDO 2% and I switch around between Discover, Amex, Chase Ink and CAP1(no FOREX) depending on the purchase. Since travel rewards are not as important to me, this USAA card would be the best simplify everything card.

Re: Apple TV: Third Generation vs. Fourth Generation

Has the airplay function improoved from 3rd to fourth gen. Improved as in is it more robust. I use that quite a bit on my 3rd gen and Iphone/Ipad. When it works it is great. When it glitches it is a pain as I usually have to exit and try restarting a few times.

Re: Should I Buy an IPhone 5S?

From what you have posted, the Iphone SE would be a good fit. It retains the size form factor of the Iphone5S and it has the same processor/gpu/camera as the Iphone6S so it should run Apple software(and updates) at least as long as the Iphone6S line of phones. The 6S and SE processor is substantiall...

Re: Vacationing in Spain - how to pay for things?

After several trips to europe, here is some tips I follow. 1. Definitely carry some cash. I find Europe more tuned to cash transactions, especially smaller more boutique shops and small restaurants. Having cash makes the transaction smoother, versus the vendor trying to make their seldom used CC mac...

Re: Thinking about Mac (vs Windows)

Slightly different take. If you are considering a laptop then definitely a retina Macbook. That screen(perfect scaling) and trackpad are the best out there. Ever since MSFT threw privacy out the window with Windows 10 I am liking MacOS more. I still have windows desktop for VMs/Storage but switched ...

Re: Windows 10 from 8.1. Do I REALLY Want To Do This?

Windows 7 was a great interface. I actually think XP is the best overall but Windows 7 updates made sense. Windows 8.1 interface was too drastic. I winded using it as it did have substantial performance improvements over windows 7. The upgrade process to Windows 10 is pretty smooth but the interface...
