Re: 2019 contribution best approach

I would recommend also looking into a SEP IRA. Less paperwork to setup than solo 401k and has a max contribution of up to 56k. SEP is what DW and I chose because we are both W2 and 1099. I am not sure if this would effect your 2019 back door plans. Edit: I would recommend also looking into a SEP IRA...

Re: Should I max out my Roth IRA as an 18 year old?

I maxed my Roth starting at 18. Put it into a 5 year cd for a long time which was not the best advice for an 18 YO.

If you can max it at 18 and going forward, future you will be very happy.

Re: Anyone used Amazon to buy household goods

Take a look at walmart.com. We have been buying a ton of household products on there with free 2 day shipping over $35. For most food related items are also cheaper than Amazon.

Re: How often do you redeem your credit card cash rewards?

I don't pay any attention to cc points until they are worth $2000 ish. We put them towards vacation or something my wife has been wanting but won't buy for herself.

I usually make sure she wins.

Re: Atlanta teppanyaki

No clue about tepanyaki in Atlanta but am defiantly a fan of the food. Wife ordered me a outdoor griddle a couple years ago for birthday and the food actually comes out like the restaurants! We now use it on a weekly basis for a lot more than just that. Great for fried rice too!! His is the version ...

Re: HCE: What to expect when having to pay tax on excess 401k contributions

In 2015 our 401k failed the discrimination test. We only had 2 Employees out of 50 contribute to the plan and both were HCE. The money was refunded early 2016 with an additional $200 penalty. For 2016 we put a 4% company match which put the 401k back into good standing. Still only 2 people contribut...

Re: Coach bag for wife - how to buy

I second Shopping on the coach direct website. Worst case is 2% cash back on cc and 8% cash back on Ebates. Ebates has given me a total of 1700 bucks back and does not void out any other promotions or discounts.

Re: Black Friday - is this overdone?

I love our Black Friday internet shopping deal we go after every year. Sears puts their 50x60 inch fleece blankets on sale for $1.99 ea with free shipping on any order. They are the type our local animal shelter prefers. They only let you checkout with 8 at a time so my wife and I place 20 or 30 ord...

Re: Paying off 15 year mortgage early vs investing. Please suggest.

My wife and I are early 30s and in a very similar situation. We decided to pay it off and never think about it again. Our final payment is August 1st and will have it all wrapped up just in time for her 31st birthday. It gives me peace of mind knowing that we can now live our current lifestyle off o...

Re: Embarrasing mortgage question

I was in a very similar position 3 years ago. My wife and I were selling our condo which had 250k equity to purchase a SFR. We wanted to put the condo equity against the mortgage. We put down 20% cash of the purchase price and had our loan officer issue a first mortgage for the amount we wanted to f...

I have gone through a few of the bulk email providers and have been using mailchimp for the past 4 years. Very easy to build a new campaign and view analytics. We have 500k customers on our mailing list and use the pay per send as opposed to their monthly subscription plan. They also offer free acco...

Re: How much do you spend on groceries?

My wife and I average $500 per month in groceries. We purchase all of our veggies and deli at one market, meats and canned goods at another and paper products usually at Target. We have compromised over the years to buy a few more of the expensive items we enjoy that are never on sale. We justiy it ...
