I don't do much touristy stuff on trips, but a boat tour at Pictured Rocks is cool and not expensive. make sure you fuel up your vehicle whenever you can, some gas stations you see on Google may no longer exist when you pull up -small downs, no jobs, things close - have seen it a few times in the UP...

This, to me, is one of those penny wise & pound foolish topics. I can get a passport photo at Walgreens or CVS (with a coupon) for $10 and they guarantee it will fit the government requirements. have read (bad) stories of folks taking their own photo then 'sending in' a passport renewal only to get it back after an extended period of time as the pictures weren't to spec. On that note I personally wouldn't use a cell phone to take my own photo. I need to do this later this year.

company near me takes old concrete, rocks etc and grinds it up (recycles) it for roadbase (they resell it). Of course one has to haul it there themselves. Cost was minimal.

many companies are trying to sell everyone on 'more is better', which isnt' the case. for the average user which is most of us (Netflix, home computers, phone, surfing), 60mpbs is more then plenty.

going cheap is good though a cell phone can be a lifeline IMO. If you're stranded by the roadside due to breakdown or in the ER w/ a loved one, you'll prob wish you have more minutes/data to make the infinite # of calls required to manage a situation. Something to think about.
