You could start by asking your financial advisor how much he is charging you. Also, if he has you in mutual funds, ask about the expense ratios of the funds.
All those expenses and fees are reducing your investment returns.

I think you are leaning in the right direction. If you go with Vanguard, they will pull your money from where it is into your new account (which they will help you set up) at Vanguard. The only cash I hold is in Vanguard Prime Money Market.
I retired almost 10 years ago and up until now I have not held any cash at all. We've recently decided to pay for our grandson's college education, so I'm moving money there for safety.

My Dad had an office model IBM Selectric that he used to let me play with when I was younger and smaller and visiting him at work.
At the time, it seemed to me that it was about the size of a washing machine. Probably weighed about as much, too.

I wouldn't consider the 190K a "loss". If you do, then fine.
But you'd also have to then realize that after 2 years of saving the 96K annual premium, you'd be about "even"...and getting further "ahead" every year that you don't pay that premium.
