Check accounts every day. If you see a notation "pending transaction" on a holding, and you didn't request a transaction....well.....

The Raymond James advisor cannot predict the future return of any portfolio. Nobody can. He is blowing smoke. The portfolio he suggested is, however, reasonable. He may have meant that the proposed allocations would have returned 5.35% over some specified period in the past. Read the wiki, read some...

I'm a big believer that the "if only" mode of thinking is not helpful. Looking into the past and cherry picking a single event to change offers no value at all. Suppose, for example, you were able to go back and change the fact that you sold the stock too soon. Would that cause your backst...

If one can come to see volatility as a friend as well as an enemy, one may find it is less important to "tame" it.

If, on the other hand, that downward (or upward) volatility causes one to abandon an otherwise reasonable investment plan then one should reduce that volatility.

I agree that 95/5 is a bit aggressive and could be difficult to stay with in a steep stock decline.
See this link for Vanguard's data on different returns based on different asset allocation selections.
You'll have to interpolate a bit to visualize your 95/5, but it may be worth the effort.

It has been noted that many (most?) investors under perform the funds they are invested in by about 2% per year. This is, of course, a result of moving in and out of those funds due to volatility. Can one imagine the average under performance associated with a 100% equity allocation to small caps? 2b2
