If the glasses need minor adjustments such as bending the frames around the ears do you do that yourself using a warm water bath?
Every pair of glasses I've bought in my entire life has needed adjustments before I left the optician with them.

Re: Fidelity as a one stop shop
For California residents the best Fidelity MMF you can get for that amount is currently FDLXX; it's almost completely state tax exempt, and the tax-equivalent yield in CA is around 4.5%. You could also look at a CA muni-fund, but the yield is far more volatile. If you have access to Vanguard funds (e.g. at Vanguard, Ally Invest or E-Trade) take a look at VUSXX (TEY in CA currently around 5%). I understand that Fidelity can automatically liquidate FDLXX in a brokerage account but can they automatically sweep uninvested cash into FDLXX too? If so, do you just call them to set that up because FDLXX isn't listed as an available money market fund on https://www.fidelity.com/mutual-funds/fidelity-funds/money-market-funds-fcash ? No auto sweep. W...

And I guess the countless threads and reports of issues when moving between brokerages is all hearsay, good to know. I have not seen anything like countless threads and most that I have involved an error by the person doing the transfer so I challenge you to provide some evidence. But if you want to waste your time and effort chasing after a few dollars here and there, knock yourself out. But do not pretend that every transfer is 100% risk free and there is no margin of error. So far this year I have made $7800 in transfers although the good public.com one isn't available anymore but I will state that I have never had a problem over the past 15 years of doing this that did more than temporarily hang up the transfer and was subsequently res...

It doesn't work like you think it does. Use the KFF calculator. The subsidy it gives you is the entire credit, regardless what premium you pay. If one of us dropped off ACA for Medicare, the other would no longer get any subsidy, because the joint income is still used.spammagnet wrote: ↑Sun Mar 26, 2023 11:45 pm
Since health insurance premiums are tax-deductible, they may determine whether we itemize deductions or use the standard deduction. Since the ACA subsidy is a credit, does it reduce the ACA insurance premium I can claim? Or can I claim the entire premium, regardless of subsidy received?

Re: I Bonds - how long does it take to settle?
Thank you for your answer. I just wanted to confirm the mechanics. So if you cash out jan1.2023, you get interest thru Dec, and a 1099 for the previous tax year (2022), nothing for 2023MrJedi wrote: ↑Mon Mar 13, 2023 6:50 am No. If you redeem on 1st of the month, you get interest from the last month. But if you hold until the 31st, it's not anymore interest. That's why it's advisable to redeem early in the month if you are planning a redemption, since holding longer through a partial month has no benefit to you.
The reverse logic applies for buying them. I.e. buy at the end of the month and you get a full month of interest when the next month rolls over.
The last 3mo interest penalty for early redemption is what I'm trying to factor

Re: Foreign Tax Credit
Form 1116 sch B tracks carryover, but was not created until 2021. So for 2020 you track the carryover yourself, and for 2021 you amend with a 1116 sch B Thank you for your post. From what I posted, does it appear that I have $3,287 foreign tax credit remaining? In other words, is $3,287 the amount to carryover? I have a friend preparing my taxes and at the moment, I do not know if he filed my 2022 taxes. If he has filed my 2022 taxes, does he amend my 2021 and 2022 tax returns with Schedule B (Form 1116)? If he has not filed my 2022 taxes, he amends my 2021 taxes and does he use Form 1116 for 2022? Lastly, we know that my 2021 taxes were filed and assuming that my 2022 taxes were also filed, is it acceptable not to amend my 2021 and 2022 t...

Cointracker has a free plan for coinbase customers, generates a csv that you can import into TT or HRBneed403bhelp wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 6:58 pm Somewhat tangential to this thread, but I’ve ended up with quite a lot of transactions in Coinbase last year from using the Coinbase debit card and selling XLM to USD. Does anyone have a website or program they recommend to convert the Coinbase transactions to a format that I can input into TurboTax download edition?
Also, I have about three non Coinbase crypto transactions (SoFi Crypto for a bonus and Paxful -> Kraken to cash out a gift card from a credit card rebate). Any good links to step by step instructions for entering them into TurboTax download?
Thanks again!

Re: Voiding 1095-A and 8962 (Premium Tax Credit)
Has anyone had the issue of needing a voided 1095-A because they already have employer coverage (1095-Bs and 1095-C's) showing coverage for the full year? I tried to e-file a couple weeks ago and TT rejected it for a lack of 1095-A/Form 8962 which is showing a grant for full premium tax credit (~$3600). I am trying to dispute it with the marketplace because I would never have been eligible for any of the credit based on my high income alone and I also had employer coverage throughout the year. I would otherwise be getting a much larger refund. Also I usually do my own taxes through TT but not sure if I should file an extension and try to get someone this year. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. It's not a grant. 1095a is reconciled in you...

You need to post your tax line from 1040, and your whole 1116, or it's impossible for anytime to tell you where you're going wrongyosemite_mountain wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2023 2:19 pmHere are my tax brackets:
Effective federal tax rate: 24%
Marginal federal tax rate: 35%
If you don't have US tax, there's nothing to credit. If your 1116 ratios are off in the wrong direction, same effect.
