Re: Monthly investing
I don't add to the bonds on a monthly basis, but I do in an index fund and recently in some ETF's. Your thoughts on having more risk with a 100% investment are true, it's inherent in what you're saying - there's no diversification. I'd keep the ratio you have at the moment, although I'd personally tweak it a bit towards 20% bonds and more in REITs.

I wouldn't always take something from Business Insider as "the" way to go. Yes, the market is most likely going down, but when exactly that will start or how long it will go on - no one knows for sure. Things in tech and in society are changing at a faster pace than before, so market cycles might be affected either way.

On the other hand, as discussed in this paper, a total-return approach potentially offers a number of portfolio benefits, including maintaining diversification, enhancing the portfolio’s tax-efficiency, and increasing the portfolio’s longevity. As someone who recently joined I just want to say that the overall message of "stay the course" in the forum is what I was looking for. Not only for its simplicity but because here I see the rationale behind it.

Re: U.S. stocks in freefall
The fall was to be expected. The only thing I'm looking at right now is the rate hike and how it will delay the inevitable. If it even manages to delay it at all.
