If youre worried about permanent disability, wouldnt disability insurance be better, since it would cover injury from any cause and you wouldnt have to risk a trial against the uninsured driver? Get the required underlying (usually 300k) and 1M umbrella. To protect you and also to fund the victim's rehab. Insurance website should let you play with the numbers.

Insurance companies profit by winning the bet against you. Only insure for losses you cannot afford.

Some folks hold onto collision so they dont have to pursue the other driver, when the other driver's at fault.

Aren't any shortcuts, you have to contact every insurer and an independent agent if you want the cheapest policy. Or simply go with Amica, Chubb, or USAA. They have the best reputation on this board, among the national carriers.

CapitalOne 360 seems to process ACH transactions in 24 hours, Chase and my credit union take 3 days.

Also they're opening a branch/cafe in downtown LA on Saturday, if you want to yell at them in person :)

If you dont expect to have a large property damage claim eg you dont live in a fire/flood/storm region, save the money.

Some owners lost all equity when their HOA couldnt afford to rebuild after Northridge. Ive been meaning to ask the CEA about loss of use, but I assume it only pays for each month you cant live there because of reconstruction. Would be nice if it paid out the full 100k if your HOA decides not to rebu...

Cases always settle because lawyers are $250+/hour and suits drag on for years. And you have to convince the jury there was foreseeable negligence. $1M umbrella is enough unless you plan to drive in an abnormal and reckless way. If so, get 10M.
