Re: Sitting on cash....Waiting for a crash

Another quote from "Deep Risk": " Most importantly, shallow risk mandates deep liquidity. If you do not have a large amount highly liquid and safe reserves—for the average individual, Treasuries and CDs—you will not have the wherewithal to weather the employment setbacks that come wi...

WB/Berkshire and traded stock holdings performance

I'm a big fan of BRK and got into a discussion with a friend this past weekend who questioned whether there has been any published analysis of his/their stock picking ability in public markets. (He had no problem with my contention that their access to private markets and to low cost funds through t...

Re: Vanguard index funds through Schwab

I've been away taking care of a family medical emergency but am back. I talked to my Schwab rep and she said she could arrange for trading commissions to be waived if I agreed to bring in new funds to Schwab to create this portfolio. They don't do Vanguard Admiralty Class mutual funds so I'd be usin...

Re: Vanguard index funds through Schwab

Thanks, in_reality If I go with Schwab ETFs, I will ask my Schwab account manager about fee waivers though $8.95 is very nominal. I'm still curious as to whether there are any disadvantages to investing in Vanguard mutual funds through Schwab. Other than cost? It's what $70/buy? Also, I don't think...

Vanguard index funds through Schwab

My brokerage account has been with Schwab for a long time. I'd like to start a 3-fund core portfolio as described on this site using Vanguard's index funds for which Schwab will charge no fees or commissions. Is there nevertheless an advantage to opening an account directly with Vanguard for these i...
