Re: Selling land FSBO help please

Thanks for all the tips. We reached out to one of the neighbors and sure enough he is interested. A few details about the property. It is a 5 acre lot, very close to town, in a small neighborhood of nine lots with HOA, all utilities ready to go, farmers irrigation, hot market, very little inventory ...

Selling land FSBO help please

I have some residential land that I'd like to sell and considering FSBO. I know this has been discussed several times on this forum but I didn't see anything in regards to bare land. It seems land lends itself to FSBO better than homes because you don't have to let anyone in. Any tips? What is the b...

Re: Trouble with Personal Capital

I have sent them messages about it and they have been able to go back and import lost time periods. But I suspect they are way backed up because it takes many weeks to hear back from them now. The problem persists. I hope they can figure this out soon. I'm starting to look for an alternative. We alr...

Trouble with Personal Capital

Anyone having trouble with their Personal Capital account not updating all transactions? I have been using this platform for several years with few problems until the past several months. Wells Fargo is the usual problem account not updating all info. Maybe this is a problem with two factor authenti...

Re: Umbrella UM/UIM

How does health insurance play into these scenarios where the UM/UMI coverage is exceeded on your auto policy? Would it be just an extremely unlikely event where you would exceed this coverage and then health insurance did not cover the excess?

Re: Umbrella UM/UIM

I'm currently looking at adding this UM/UIM coverage to an umbrella policy. For one million it is not that big of a jump in cost but I think I should probably have 5 million. For 5 million it is almost $1000 more. Think it is worth the cost?

Re: F.I.R.E. Portfolio help please

I am not quite following the logic of your system. You refer to this portfolio and that portfolio. You have one big portfolio. I either didn't explain clearly or I am missing something very fundamental. Yes I realize I have one big portfolio consisting of numerous paper asset accounts, RE holdings,...

Re: F.I.R.E. Portfolio help please

Thank you so much for your replies! I really appreciate the feedback. Here a few replies to your thoughts. The commercial real estate seems pretty safe to me, much more so than stock. Most of the tenants in our spaces have been there long term and weathered the last recession just fine. Maybe this i...

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

Thanks for the analysis and explanations. Conclusion: I should not fund a backdoor roth.

Does the proposed asset allocation, etc look OK?

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

I spoke with my accountant and from what I can understand it seems to make sense. Very difficult for me to totally understand all these concepts. However next year I will most likely be in a higher tax bracket so probably does not make sense to do a backdoor roth. Here is an email he sent and maybe ...

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

This is certainly beyond my novice level of expertise. So sounds like I should forget about doing a backdoor roth but for my wife it makes sense. I will ask my accountant about this.

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

I found my tax form 8606 from 2012 and it appears they certainly knew about all IRA accounts and 2012 contributions. I can check with them tomorrow and make sure it is all OK.

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

Thanks for the heads up on this issue. I will have to check with my accountant. There was no mention of a pro rata rule and they seemed very confident in funding the backdoor roths.

Re: Portfolio advice please. Moving funds to Vanguard.

I think my 2012 Simple contributions were actually around $16,000. Our accountant advised us to fund a traditional IRA and then once the funds clear, roll them into our roth IRAs. Is this the backdoor Roth? Does this answer your questions?

Thanks

3 fund portfolio vs more complicated allocation

Hi, I am in the process of moving my funds to Vanguard and simplifying my accounts. I am currently invested in way too many funds and I am interested in the 3 fund portfolio. Should I consider more funds to favor small value and add REITs like Larry Swedroe suggests in his book The Only Guide to a W...
