Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

[quote][Is that because you are saving $100,000 a year or because you expect to see 10% returns for the next 10 years?/quote]

I'm saving around 100,000 a year and assuming 6% annual return.

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

You need to think about what happens if the market drops 10-20% and then stays flat for 5-10 years. Can you retire in 10 years on 760K-850k?

I'm thinking after working for another 10 years that my total net worth will be over 2 to 2.5 million.

Re: IRA to 401K rollover + Backdoor IRA in same year

I completed an IRA to 401k rollover in Dec 2010, then did a Backdoor Roth in Jan 2011 (and every year since). I sanity-checked it with a couple accountants, and it passed the IRS review (mini-audit in the same year for another, unrelated item). I'd use a tax-year separator for the two transactions....

VDAIX in taxable account

Looking at VDAIX (Vanguard Dividend Appreciation Index Fund) and VTSAX, their total return is pretty similar. The only thing is VDAIX is new. I'm thinking of adding VDAIX on my taxable account. It's like owning dividend stocks that grows it's dividend income. Thinking of putting it in taxable accoun...

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

If you mean 75 bonds 25 stocks then that would be "aggressive in bonds." Usually the convention with those numbers is stocks first, then bonds. The possible range is 0/100 to 100/0, assuming no investments are leveraged, no short sales, etc.

I meant 75% Stocks and 25% Bonds.

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

1) if you are having trouble sleeping with DGI you are going to be crushed by a 100% equity portfolio and watching it drop by 50% when the next 2008 scenario happens. Even index stock funds can drop precipitously. 2) the purpose of bonds in a portfolio is to mitigate the effects I've described in #...

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

As one of the feedback, I receive from this post that Bogle is not recommending an International stock, what is another reason to buy it?
Here is the link to the interview.

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

What were your investments in 2007? If they were at least 80% stock, and you stuck with that allocation in the 2007-2009 crash, then you know how you will react to a bear market, and 100% stock is OK ten years from retirement. (However, I would recommend adding Total International Index for better ...

Re: 100% VTSAX need advice

I'm ok for the VTSAX to go down 50%. I can just keep working.
Is my total return will be affected if I make it 75% VTSAX and 25% VBLTX?

I also have disability insurance at my current work.

Thank you All for the recommendations!!!

100% VTSAX need advice [Vanguard Total Stock Market]

I'm 47 years old and planning to move all my investments (approximately 950,000 US dollars) to VTSAX. I have tried Dividend Growth investing and I think I can sleep better by doing index fund. DGI is consuming a lot of my time. JLCollins in his book recommended a mix of VTSAX an VBLTX. Since I'm pla...

Re: Is ETrade a good brokerage to open solo 401K?

Thank you for your feedbacks!

ETrade is giving me a 1,500 bonus for moving my IRA rollover.

Is having investor shares a big disadvantage?

Thanks!

Is ETrade a good brokerage to open solo 401K?

Is ETrade a good brokerage to open solo 401K?

I would like to transfer my IRA rollover from Vanguard to ETrade so I can consolidate my IRA accounts to take advantage of Backdoor Roth IRA.

Unfortunately, Vanguard does not accept rollover so I can't use Vanguard solo 401K.
Thanks!
