Re: Inherited Whole Life Insurance Policy

The only you could have sold for a loss is if the price went down after you inherited it. Yep, exactly. Inherited it around December. Sold during the market drop in February. Moved the cash into index funds in tax sheltered accounts. The question that remains, however, is how do I calculate taxes t...

The details of the value of the policy are as follows: Total Death Benefit: $19,427. Net Cash Value: $3,422.49. 2016 Dividend: $72....

Power of Attorney - legalzoom?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I want to set up Power of Attorney for each other. Is there any reason not to do this on Legalzoom? It seems a lot cheaper than what I was priced at by the lawyer I spoke with.

FYI: https://www.legalzoom.com/personal/esta ... icing.html

I'm clueless here, so any advice is appreciated.

Possibly Dumb Question - Student Loan Refinancing

Hi, My Wife and I are both looking into refinancing our student loans. She has approximately 20,000 and I have 80,000 of federal student loans earning from 6% - 8%. We are in the position where, due to our professions, our annual combined income will jump from 100,000 to near 400,000 in three years....

Schwab Three Fund Portfolio

Hi Everyone, I am in the process of setting up a three fund portfolio as I've read about in the wiki and the boogleheads book. I'm setting this up in Schwab, as I have had good experiences with them in the past and my funds are currently there, but I do have a question. On the wiki there are notes t...

Re: Larson Financial?

I used them for 1.5 years out of residency. They helped me get disability, term life, and a doctor loan for my small house. Thanks for the feedback, Impromptu. This was quite helpful. Two quick follow-up questions: Did you have them manage your assets from the start? I am curious what the experienc...

Larson Financial?

Has anyone on the board had experiences with Larson Financial? What were your experiences like? To provide a little background: My wife is a medical resident who will be graduating in a few years and earning the salary of a well paid medical professional. While we're primarily DIY when it comes to p...

Schwab vs Vanguard

Schwab vs Vanguard: In terms of overall experience, from fund availability, to commission, to index fund availability, which do you prefer? Why? I know this has been asked on this forum before, but the answers are somewhat dated and I wanted to get an updated perspective. I ask this because I have j...

Inherited Stocks - Advice on Selling (Determinations and Taxes)

Hi Everyone, Newbie here with a quick question. I recently inherited a portfolio of stocks (approx 40 stocks, approx $30,000), best characterized as diversified but focused on dividend growth. While I plan to keep most of the portfolio and let it grow, I want to move some of the money into index fun...
