Perhaps One-Participant 401(k) Plans will help (it's one of the links from the wiki linked previously).

Thx!

See Solo 401(k) plan - Bogleheads and the links in that article to SEP and SIMPLE plans for some options. Fidelity has a good reputation for its solo 401k plans, so if you are already happy with your 401k and IRA there.... Sorry dumb question but there are joint 401k plans? I see a lot of Vanguard ...

My wife just turned 30 and wants to start a retirement investment account. She owns her own small business. What are her most simple options at this time? Roth IRA with Vanguard or Fidelity (I have a 401k and IRA here) or a SEP ira?

Anyone moved to another state for lower cost of living?

Hello, has anyone made the decision to move to another state/location for financial reasons? Wife and I decided to move from S. Cali to Houston, TX two years ago. The wife opened a restaurant and I placed a great job here (I’m 44, wife is 31 we have a baby). So far so good, we bought a nice home (re...

Are you supposed to inform state tax board when moving to another state?

I moved from Cali to Texas in 2013 and recently noticed a withdrawal on my bank account from the California tax board (DMV) for a 2015 car registration fee. I called the tax board to inform them the car was no longer in Cali since 2013 and demanded a refund. They said I failed to notify them and the...

It is not really possible to answer your question without information about the rest of your investments, if any. Fidelity is a good company, but I doubt anyone here would suggest that particular fund because it is not low cost and it is actively managed and it represents a very narrow portion of t...

My wife owns a restaurant (LLC partnership) and wants to open a retirement account. I'm researching SEP IRA and if I understand correctly she is allowed to contribute $53,000 or 25% of the employee's income. Is this correct? As the business owner , does she need to wait 3 years to start contributing?

A few issues in here.... - Your contributions are always 100% vested. - The employer match usually vests over time but if you have left, your not going to get those no matter how long you wait. - You can rollover to an IRA within a brokerage account and still own shares in any listed company. - Thi...

I also went with Wells at first and didn't get a good feeling with the loan agent. I went to BofA and didn't like the agent there too. Re: Can someone explain to me how Term life is a better choice than WLI.

The simple explanation is that there is a window where a permanent life insurance policy would "win" versus a term/investment combination. Buying term and investing doesn't always beat a permanent policy. You can see a simple PermTerm comparison spreadsheet here . I originally set that up...

Re: Can someone explain to me how Term life is a better choice than WLI.

Real Simple, my $500k term policy costs $23 per month. A $50k WLI policy would cost $378 per month. I take the difference between $378 and $23 which is $355 and I put that into my 401K. Now I save for my own retirement instead of paying an insurance agents retirement. I also have 10 times the insur...

The one red flag for me was when the agent told me that WLI would be better and that I should plow money into a $1m plan for myself and another $1m for my wife. Re: Can someone explain to me how Term life is a better choice than WLI.

It is simply cheaper and covers a required term. Most people don't need life insurance until death - by the end of the term dependents have sufficient assets of their own or from the estate. Eg in about 20 years time your daughter has left college and is able to support herself. She is no longer yo...

What about the part where you get Term insurance and use the rest of the money to invest? So for ex. my premium is $80 monthly instead of a WLI premium at $280. Then I would use the $200 to invest into a IRA or ROTH account that over 20 will grow?
