Keep in mind that I'm a young guy (23 years old). My Mom died (my parents divorced years ago) & I inherited quite a bit of money through life insurance. That said... In my mind what a young person like me wants to build is a pyramid. Wide & high. I can do that with a good dividend paying fun...

My big plan in a sell off is to keep dollar cost averaging
down into it. I know sooner or later that the market will
find a bottom & go back up.

If I can pick up more shares that are on sale, I think that
is the prudent thing to do...

Here is how I look at it. I'm very young (age 22) my hold time is age 100 - 22 = 78 years. I do not want to pay any taxes (long term or short term taxes). Being tax efficient is very important. I have the time to buy & hold and ride through anything... I do not listen to the news or talking head...

I would suggest that you get your financial calculator out. In a 50 year time period the difference between a 50/50, 60/40, 70/30, & 80/20 AA could be millions of dollars. For example I'm 100/0 but I'm 22 years old with a 70/80 year hold time. If you use a hold time of 50 years you might find it...

I'm 100% in the Total Stock Market Index Fund so I
don't re balance. I check my account every time I make a
buy to make sure that it went through. I dca monthly.
I'm more interested in the number of shares & dividends
than price per share. In my mind it's all about the number of shares.
