Re: where to allocate new cash? input to balance my portfolio

Thanks for the input so far. My interest to spread investment (DCA) over 6m or 1 year was to avoid sudden market movements. Agree that lumpsum in long run may be 66% higher in return but we may be close to market peak - hence my concern. Reminder - my allocation before $375K is below. http://i67.tin...

Re: where to allocate new cash? should I hire financial advisor...

Paul, I couldn't copy a table here.. the order of percentages are US Stock, Intl Stocks, Bonds and Cash/Short term. Apologies, I should have included a 0% for the Bonds. In short, 36%/25%/39% refers to VTSAX, VTIAX and Cash (including emergency funds).I've updated the initial post.

529 vs 401(k) for grad school

I will be attending part time business school. I want to benefit from tax exceptions as much as possible. Is it better to obtain loan from 401k or borrow from my kids 529 plan? I was told that I can add myself as beneficiary to 529 and can withdraw...kids have 10 yrs before college. Assuming I have ...

Re: After tax contributions to 401k - worthwhile? [Savings P

yes, you are right. there is a gap of $15K that I can contribute to after tax. I have never invested in a qualified after-tax account. I' have mixed opinion on after-tax 401K, esp., with record-keeping and benefits against regular taxable accounts. We maintain after -tax investments in very low expe...

Re: After tax contributions to 401k - worthwhile? [Savings P

thanks everyone for sharing views. If I understand right - you can contribute to qualified plans (pre-tax or after-tax) until one of these happen: 1) pre-tax limit of $17, 500; 2) total compensation > 255K or 3) total qualified plan contribution >51K. So if I hit total compensation of $255K around S...

Re: After tax contributions to 401k - worthwhile? [Savings P

The Company Savings Plan mirrors many of the provisions of the tax-qualified 401(k) Savings Plan. The Company Savings Plan is a “nonqualified deferred compensation plan” under the Internal Revenue Code and as such, makes it possible for participants to earn benefits on all pay, including amounts in ...
