Re: What is Bitcoin?

The dollar bill itself has no value. It represents goods and services with equivalent value to a dollar. I guess you can say the same about Bitcoin. Although I can't answer why people recognize 1 Bitcoin is worth $4000 of goods and services in the same way that a dollar bill is worth $1 of goods an...

Re: What is Bitcoin?

I do not understand how to value Bitcoin, or why it has any value in the first place other than "because other people think so." I can calculate the value of a stream of future cash flows, but I don't know how to value a crypo / digital currency that does not produce anything of value. Hell, I can ...

Re: What is Bitcoin?

Does Bitcoin pay dividends? If not, then why not? No. Because that's not how the code works. The code is the bare minimum to enable a decentralized record keeping system that cannot be easily tampered with - any other behavior would have to be added on after the fact. But there is no central author...

Re: Oregon road trip help

Oh, this will be true for any metro area near the path of totality. Spend some time in traffic! It's not a Seahawks game -- it's once-in-a-lifetime! It's not "spending some time in traffic." It's north of one million people from out of state converging on a strip of land 60 miles wide. Emergency se...

Re: Laptop suggestions pls

I'm not currently in the market but I've been keeping an eye out for small (11-13 inch) laptops with decent specs for a while and the prognosis is not great. There is so much more diversity in the 14-15 inch range, which is simply larger than I want. And I'm a "power user" FWIW. I hope this changes ...

Re: Why is everything done with a mouse?

- How do you cut and copy a file in Windows or Safari? ANswer: Drag and drop one file from one area to another. The end. ctrl-C ctrl-V (or cmd-C cmd-V) A query....do you use the 'multi-touch' capabilities of that trackpad? A trackpad is much more than a mouse replacement....in many ways i...

Re: Is it Safe to Get Your DNA Tested?

As a Counterpoint to what a lot of people are saying here, I am a very privacy-conscious individual, and I did get the 23andMe test. This was quite a while ago before the FDA Crackdown that caused 23andMe to water down their results. At that time I was given access to a lot of digested health report...
