Re: Expat American investing in Singapore

I was an American expat in Singapore more than a decade ago. You may be getting a part of your compensation in CPF. That can become a good amount of money at the end of your tenure there. I took my chunk and got a USD draft made. There are a good number of Americans teaching at Singapore universitie...

Retired since 1/2008. My wife is still working full time. She has a 6.5 year old car with about 44K miles. I sold my car 1.5 years ago. On weekdays, I walk or bike to wherever I need to go, usually within 5 miles of home. I do not miss not having a car very much. In a pinch, I can drop my wife off a...

2 UA Tickets to Japan. Need to change/cancel.

In late March, I paid $1,552 for 2 non-refundable tickets to Japan beginning next week. Because of a not life-threatening sickness of a family member, we have decided to change our plans. United will let me book a similar trip later in the year for a $300/person change fee + applicable higher fare. ...

Thanks for the pointer. I bought the upgrade for some future use on my original Surface Pro.
I will continue to use Quicken 2014 on my 9 year old laptop running Windows XP.
I am waiting for a decent version of Quicken for Mac and then I will ditch my Windows machines for good.

First time to Japan Travel. Advice?

My wife and I are planning to visit Japan in April for 10-14 days. This would be our first time in the country other than switching planes at Narita. I am looking for basic advice as to whether to (1) go with a tour group, or (2) just book airfare (from SFO) and hotels from the US? I have not been a...

2016 Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek (or Honda Civic)?

I have not owned a car for over a year. On weekends and outside of office hours, I have access to my wife's car. In my quite flat city in the Bay Area, I get around mostly on foot or on my bicycle. The nearest Zipcar location is a 20 minute walk away. Occasionally, I have found myself in a situation...

"Failed transmission and motor board" is what he said and wrote. He said that I was lucky to have gotten 6 years out of it and that this design had been abandoned by GE after multiple failures.
