Financial Question for a Surgeon/Doctor

Last week I had a casual finance discussion with an acquaintance who manages the money for the family that my wife works for. Needless to say this family is incredibly wealthy so they are in a way different category then my wife and I. During this discussion I brought up the fact that I was a Bogleh...

Few days in Portland in July

I have a wedding to attend in Portland in late July. We will be arriving late on a Friday. We will have all day Saturday before the wedding and the entire day Sunday free. We are staying at the Marriott Downtown Waterfront. I was thinking something in Portland on Saturday and maybe heading to some w...

Re: 6732.80 Refund

Viola! Pajamas was right. Went to my state's comptroller website and found it. It doesn't specify the amount so who knows if it is truly that much. I downloaded the claim forms so we shall see. I looked up my name and found a random $250 that was owed to me. Will update when all is said and done. Th...

New HVAC system

To set the stage, I have a 3100 sq ft single story ranch style home in Dallas. The DW and I have splurged on some home renovations including kitchen and family room. Shortly after this started, my AC unit decided to go out. Since buying the home, I knew the AC/Furnace/Ducting was going to need a ove...

Thanks for all the good replies. I am leaning towards not going with the extended warranty. However, I will look into third party plans and my credit card as well before I purchase. I am exceptionally late to the high definition party. However, my wife and I purchased a new home that we will be moving in to next month. I have decided to splurge and go high def. I really want one of the new ultra thin Samsungs. Have looked at both the plasma and LEDs. Right now I am leaning to t...

My wife and I will be moving in approx 6-8 months to a new town. I have begun the process of looking at mortgages and what it takes to get pre-approved. My question is about points. What is the point of points? When, or is it ever, advantageous to pay points vs not. We will be putting 20% down, have...

Another thing I might add

Sorry to hear you lost your job, however, a good boglehead would find opportunity here. If your income is expected to be lower this year due to not working, you could make y...
