Re: Device for men's haircuts
Hi
My husband groomed, trimmed our Westie a month ago.
I cut his hair yesterday. He watched videos and thought....bought a device by Norelco.
Used camera on laptop and device to look at back. It went well within an hour. He'd not had a haircut for 4 months. Remarkable to be able to do this adequately.
Guess the Westie was watching us...what was he thinking?

Hi,
Our grandchildren are interested in seeing the Museum of Natural History in NYC. We live near Princeton NJ and have not been to NYC for many years - near 80s both of us. Thinking of using a limo service to take 6 people to the Museum. Does that sound possible? Thanks.

If you want to take 4% per year and have $90,000 to live on, you will need $2,250,000
when you retire. From your post it seems you will not have that much and you'll have to work longer and maybe reduce your needed income. VFP doesn't compute.

Re: Women, How Much Do You Pay for Haircut
I have colored my hair myself for 40 years with L'oreal color express...this includes highlighting.
Takes about 2 hrs altogether, mostly waiting. Easy peasy.
Let my hair grow for 2 years and enjoyed a ponytail, but recently just cut it off myself and after a lot of compliments from my exercise buddies, decided it was now the right length (chin length). So I'm now going back to my stylist and it's about $30 for shampoo, cut, blowdry and $5 tip. Have tried the luxurious places but didn't like their cuts.

Rereading all this I see I'm really! a boglehead and have been a long time.

Hi Bogleheads,
I recall there was a program that would show you the devolution of your nest egg due to RMD over your lifetime, given some average of stock market changes.
Any help for this question? Thanks,

home in trust but question about nj tax benefit
Hi,
Our home is now in a living trust, but happens we usually apply for a homestead rebate in nj.
Further our nj income is now so low that we could apply for a "senior property tax freeze".
But I think we are no longer the owners, but the trust is the owner. So we can't apply for these benefits. Any thoughts here? Thanks!

jbtx,
Appreciate all this. Noticing inflation worries from FEC heads at Jackson Hole this week and suggestions from NYT Eds of possible incipient downturn. Thinking that tariffs will cause local US inflation so am considering VIPSX plus VTI to replace VWIAX and VWENX in retirement accounts. Appreciate your writing this might be helpful if we get to real inflation again.

Hi Bogleheads,
We have about 2M divided 50/50 between tax sheltered and not sheltered. It is entirely in Admiral Wellington and Wellesley funds so is 50/50 AA.
Am considering exchanging all the tax sheltered funds to become 1/2 VTSAX and 1/2 Admiral VIPSX.
This gives some protection against inflation.
Sensible? Lazy, yes.

mutual fund dividends not being sent to bank
Now that we have brokerage accounts for our taxable funds, Vanguard did not send dividends from the mutual funds to our bank as requested. The dividends were placed in new Federal money market accounts. I have personally moved that money, now a month after the dividends were paid. Is this just a glitch, will they do what they are supposed to do in the future? Website of each mutual fund says dividends and capgains will be sent to bank. What is going on? Anyone have this problem?

Hi,
Thinking that after decades we'd like to test the flower garden soil again.
Then could choose fertilizer, lime, dried blood, ashes appropriately, not just redoing what seemed right many years ago. Any experience in using a soil test kit, pH meter etc?
Thanks!

We decided to plant knock out roses because I'd heard they were undestructable and flowered all summer. Now after 1 month they are both decimated - no flowers, almost all leaves are gone or chewed to nothing. Not japanese beetles, too early. Any suggestions? We're thinking the "caterpillars" that did this came with the plants (from Home Depot).

Our son with a good job is in favor - lives 300 miles away.
For 1800 sqft we could get a small house for $600k and pay $6k/month.
Or we could get an apt for $400k and pay $5k/mo.
We have $2,000k and a $350k home to sell. What path is best?
Good health, no debt, both ~76yo.

emerald ash borer disaster
On our street in NJ the HOA has decided to remove all (~25) the trees and replace them. They are about 10 years old and are ash trees. There is infestation of the emerald ash borer on some of them. This is a very sad event to me. But there is no way out. The HOA has decided it's not ok to treat them as they'll get bigger and be more expensive to remove. They will pay to remove, we have to pay to replace. Wondering if there are some advances in insecticide research that might make the treatments better and cheaper in the future.
There are 3 possibilities for replacements apparently: plane trees, bartlett pear and japanese lilac trees. Any thoughts on these replacements?
Feeling sad, but moving on.

Any suggestions about how to sell a really nice car, a 2000 Honda Accord LX. AC, CDplayer, Excellent condition inside and out. 64000 miles. We used to put a little ad in a local paper and sell a nice used car to a young person associated with a nearby college. But now the local papers don't have car ads anymore. KBB and Edmunds say its worth $2900 to sell privately and that a dealer would sell it for $3900. Seems a shame not to pass it on to someone who'd get good use from it. A dealer today offered us $1500, tomorrow we'll see another one. Craigslist seems like a hassle - craigslist has only worked well for us if we offer something free
Any suggestions?
