Re: Non-Qualified index annuity ???

I read that wiki page. Thanks for that. So all in all a very complicated product where bad out weighs the good? Is there any way to set this up where it is a great investment or is this general kind of product like whole life insurance go against the Boglehead way?

Non-Qualified index annuity ???

Hey guys. This site has been great! Changed my investing life! Me and my wife are currently maxing out our 457s, Roths, 529 to the limit of the state tax credit, and split the rest of our excess cash between taxable brokerage and cash - while maintaining our 85-15 AA. We have 12 months emergency fun...

Re: Different AA's in different accounts?

I should have been more clear. I have a separate emergency fund. This money I am talking about is in a taxable brokerage account not my emergency fund. My emergency fund is in a high yield savings account.

Different AA's in different accounts?

In our Deff Comp accounts, NYS 529, and Roth IRA's we hold a 85/15 split ( We have pensions ). I opened a taxable account and was thinking because we might need the money in the future ( I do not know for what but we do not like to use our emergency fund for buying cars or vacations ). I would do ma...

Re: My plan and questions

Thank you so much for all this feedback!!! I was not clear on the children aspect of my profile. I currently have one 2yr old and one child on the way. Not three children. I was planning on paying for both children's college, hopefully with the 529. I am a little confused on how to accurately gauge ...

Re: My plan and questions

I was thinking of using the three fund portfolio for the 529. I was just confused on the AA being I would need it sooner then my other funds.

Re: the Roth, I am using the backdoor method.

Roth IRA question.

When setting up me and my wife's Roth IRA online with Vanguard they asked me if I wanted my dividends reinvested automatically or not. I do want them reinvested automatically but was wondering if I would be responsible for any yearly tax on this money reinvested or is it non-taxable because its in a...

Re: Trying to help a friend. Taxable account

Sorry about the percentages. I really appreciate you guys looking at this. It is all in a taxable account. She is in a "Managed " account and paying the fee. She is in a low tax bracket. She is 60 and this is her only investment except 26,000 in a Vanguard Money Market VMMXX.

60/40 Stock bond split

I know past returns are no guarantee of future returns. But just out of curiosity I was wondering if there is any data of a 60/40 split ( 60% total US stock market / 40% total US bond market ) for say last year, 5 years, 10, 20 etc... after posting in a previous thread and being directed to the &quo...

Yeah I am going to "back door" the Roth IRA per my accountant.

Re: Please tell me if I should be doing anything different.

I am planning on maxing out my def comp, a 529 college acct, and two ROTH IRA ( me and wife ). I also plan on investing 7000 a year into a taxable brokerage account, and adding 4500 a year to my cash savings account. As far as the life insurance goes the cash values I posted and what I can walk with...

Please tell me if I should be doing anything different.

Hi. This site is AMAZING!!! I was hooked after reading Mr. Bogles book. I feel I am on track but have made some mistakes. Before everyone grills my insurance salesman I want to make clear that he gave me what I asked for. The insurance is one thing I am changing for sure, thinking 3o year term on bo...
