HSA + Healthcare FSA

Is it possible to have HSA and healthcare FSA BOTH for contribution through employer?

Even if one has access, is it allowed to contribute to both?

Thanks.

Emergency fund

Can emergency fund be considered as part of asset allocation/portfolio if they are invested in bonds? Or should these be kept separate from assests (just like 529)? Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Savings & Investments in order of priority

I'm 39yo, high-income earner living in NY. This is my order of investment in priority: 1. 401k (18k maxed out with additional 36k from employer as profit sharing/safe harbor) 2. Roth IRA (5.5k x 2 = 11k) 3. HSA (6,750) 4. NY529 (10k state tax-exempt & additional in UESP making total of 28k for e...

Vanguard funds for emergency cash

Hi, I've about 30k from my emergency cash that are waiting till next year when I'd buy Series I bonds (20k next year and 10k the following year). I'm in higher tax bracket and live in NY state. What would be the best fund to hold this "transient" money @Vanguard in my taxable account. I'm ...

Re: Vanguard NY Tax Exempt Money Market Fund

I'm in somewhat similar situation and trying to "invest" my emergency and house downpayment money. I'm debating on CDs, tax-exempt fund, money market fund. I also live in NY state and wonder about state tax-exempt fund? Do you think they are better than CDs and why?

Thanks.

Emergency & Short Term Cash

I've about 6 months of emergency fund (50k) and saved about 100k for 20% downpayment to purchase house in near future (price range 500k or less). We are waiting for the right house to come by and are not in any rush. I'm thinking of "safely" investing this 150k rather than sitting in bank ...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Hello, I just transferred about $100k from previous employer's 401k to Vanguard traditional IRA. My existing 401k will be offering Vanguard index funds from early May, and I will be moving this money to those funds. Is it really worth to put this money into Total stock and Total international stock ...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

- As a participant, I only pay the fund cost I'm buying. Other fees are paid by the group but we compared that with Vanguard and I was told these are not extravagant. - I agree, I definitely have space for 10% of Total Bonds in my 401k. No plan for muni bonds anymore. Thanks for all your help. I rea...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Duckie, forgot to ask one more thing. I live in NY state and was wondering if I should seek state tax exempt muni bonds, anyone in Vanguard that you could suggest and which account it should go into? This will be on top of Total Bond fund but ultimately will make 20% in asset allocation. Thanks again.

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Hi Duckie, Good news, I might have Vanguard Total Stock, Total Int Stock, Total Bond, 500 US Index, Vanguard REIT funds available in my existing 401k as early as next week. Couldn't be more relieved. - I think I will do 20% bond - Yes, TD Ameritrade is HSA investment account. I have enough cash avai...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Hi Duckie, You were right, Fidelity has already sent the check on my way and cannot reverse it now. Too bad. However, I'm in the process of making Vanguard funds available in my existing 401k, so there is good chance that it may not matter in the end. Also, my wife is planning to go back on job late...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

We transferred her 401k this year to TIRA. Plan is to move it to new 401k when she starts new job later this year to avoid taxes by prorata rule. Is there a deadline for this? I read somewhere it's Oct 15!

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Thanks for your reply, Duckie. - We both contribute to our traditional IRA $5,500 and then next day convert it to Roth IRA, and report it on tax return as such. This article explains it better for tax filing. Haven't had any issue in last 4 years that we did this. https://thefinancebuff.com/how-to-r...

Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Thanks, Peter. Appreciate your reply. My existing 403b is with Fidelity and they have a ton of options as you can imagine. Re: Asset Allocation - Help with rebalancing

Thanks for your reply, Duckie. Appreciated. (1) I cannot contribute to Roth IRA directly due to income limits. However, I do backdoor Roth IRA every year in early January for both me and my wife for total of $11k. (2) For bond to put in pre-tax account, is VBTLX a good option? I might do 20-30k for ...
