Agreed with all the comments. Her focus is mainly going to be around commissions. No plans to get into flipping. We may consider buying an investment property.

Re: Wife wants to get into real-estate

I'm a Realtor myself. There are some special benefits to owning real estate when 1 of you is full time in the RE business in the active loss area(think depreciation schedule on those rentals). You may also want to check into umbrella policies to manage liabilities. What kind of umbrella policy do y...

Re: How can my parents in India invest in U.S

There's no reason for them to invest in US real estate unless they plan to live there, or you plan to rent it from them (sometimes families from the Old Country arrange that with their kids). Usually in my experience with Asian families (and Sicilian) the plan is to bring the parents over when they...

This may be a complicated question. My parents in India would like to know how to invest some of their money in U.S stock Index fund and the remaining in real estate. Investment Vehicle for Market Downturns

Hi there,

I am analyzing the risk profile of my current investments. I have a lot of money in securities, index funds. I am wondering a good vehicle to invest in case the market takes a down turn. Is it simple the total bond market?

Wife wants to get into real-estate

Update: Based on a suggestion from another Boglehead, here's the real question: My wife is a realtor and we are wondering whether we can use her profession to buy and sell houses, while saving on the taxes in the transactions because she is a realtor. If so, what is the best way of going about it? O...

Thank you for the detailed responses. What became evident after reading all these responses is that this is not a one time process. We will have to do this every year. Backdoor Roth IRA

My wife and I do not qualify for a regular Roth IRA due to the income limits. We both have an employer sponsored 401K plan but do not have a traditional IRA. Re: When is the best time to get into Bond Market?

Most of my investments are in equities like Google and Amazon. I am now moving to a more passive investing strategy advocated by bogleheads.. So I am currently using a combination of cash and stocks to create my three or two fund portfolio strategy.
