Re: "Waiting for the Market to Crash is a Terrible Strategy"

I don't remember who on this site first posted this link, but it's wonderful. Can you decide when to sell and when to buy? https://qz.com/487013/this-game-will-show-you-just-how-foolish-it-is-to-sell-stocks-right-now/ It's better if, like me, you've lost a lot of hair already. The fact that this is ...

Re: Lg refrigerator vs Samsung refrigerator.

Pay attention to delivery times and the reliability of the delivery estimate. We bought a Samsung, and had ~3 deliveries cancelled at the last minute ("the unit was damaged" or "it didn't come in on last night's truck"). In between were weeks of "nothing is available." ...

Re: Metropcs iPhone SE $200

What I don't understand here is why you even need to ask AT&T to unlock the GoPhone if you just want to stick in a SIM from an AT&T MVNO. You are correct that if one can find a suitable phone at a suitable price on a suitable network, unlocking isn't necessary. But for me, it's about indepe...

Re: Metropcs iPhone SE $200

The way I read your instructions I'll request the unlock and when I receive the code I can take the phone out of the box and swap in the H2O SIM before turning it on. Will I then have the same number, etc. as I do now on my existing phone? Just will be running on the SE instead? I will not be asked...

Re: Metropcs iPhone SE $200

How long are you married to the service before you can do that? That's a really important point. For metroPCS, 90 days https://www.metropcs.com/terms-conditions/phone-unlock-policy.html As someone mentioned earlier, for cricket, 6 months For Straighttalk, 12 months https://www.straighttalk.com/wps/...

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know an iPhone could be used w/o service. When they're turned on, they sure seem to complain if there's no SIM card. I guess I strike another feature off the "Android only" list.

Metropcs iPhone SE $200

Is anyone else tempted by a Metropcs $200 iPhone SE? https://www.metropcs.com/shop/phones/details/iPhone-SE-32GB-Space-Gray/190198291936 I'm trying to find the downside to this deal. I'm with Cricket now, and need a new phone. The phone is a bit smaller than I want, but most of the Android phones ar...

Re: Emerging markets fund: DFEMX vs DFEVX vs FPMAX

DFEVX has a Morningstar style box of

45 20 05
14 03 01
09 02 00

That's certainly a value tilt.

Is the small tilt significant? It's >3x the amount of small cap of the corresponding indexes, but still only 11%. I'm unclear when a tilt becomes significant.

Re: which hedge fund does Paul Merriman use?

I would also like to thank Mr. Merriman. I found his site before I found Bogleheads and implemented an AA close to the Ultimate Buy and Hold which I continue to be happy with. He really helped me to understand, and most importantly get started with, index investing. :sharebeer +1 And I especially a...

Re: Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University ??? worth it?

If you look at his investment advice you'd be hard pressed to convince me it's not a scam. He get's people out of debt just so he can take advantage of them. Not really sure how my posts were considered off topic... my advice is don't get involved with this guy, stop supporting him, and tell others...

Re: Retiring in southern college town

When I think NC college town I think of Chapel Hill (UNC), Durham (Duke), Winston-Salem (Wake Forest) or Davidson (Davidson College). None are anywhere near the "coast". UNC has a campus in Wilmington, which is coastal, but Wilmington is not what I would consider a "college town"...

Re: Travel tips for first time visitors to England and France?

It's been a while for us, but decide if you want history, culture, art, etc and let that guide your plans. Chartres Cathedral is a wonderful day trip from Paris (get a day tour) if you want cathedrals. Something that your friends probably haven't seen is the Ceremony of the Keys at the Tower of Lond...

I'm constantly impressed with the financial and investment knowledge displayed here. I've learned a lot and really appreciate the insight. I wonder if the fiduciary rule might have unintended consequences. I think of my doctor. He's a good doctor and I like him. But sometimes I find myself undergoin...

Also from their website, they pass along "applicable taxes and governmental fees, whether assessed directly upon you or upon Consumer Cellular". Some other MVNOs (such as Cricket) eat those.

Need Video for Understanding Stocks

I teach introductory computer science, and our current project involves writing a program to keep track of a stock portfolio. It's nothing sophisticated--the user can buy or sell a number of stocks, update the current price to show profit or loss, etc. I'm surprised that many students don't understa...
