Re: State Farm

I was a State Farm homeowner's insurance customer for 6 years. Premiums increased every year at a rate of about 10-20% per year when I had enough. What started out as $1,000 per year became close to $2,000. Never had a claim. In trying to lower the rate, State Farm offered to bundle home and auto wh...

Re: Credit score odd question

Late payments have a major impact on credit scores. The impact will slowly lessen as the late payments age (assuming you stay current on them). 35% - payment history (late payments and collections hit this hard) 30% - credit utilization 15% - length of credit history 10% - hard credit inquiries 10% ...

Re: HSA Tax Implications

That's true for Federal - but not for all states

Alabama, California and New Jersey tax contributions and earnings.

New Hampshire and Tennessee tax HSA earnings.

Re: Roth IRA income question limit - how it is derived

Unfortunately your understanding is not correct. It's based on your MAGI (AGI with a few uncommon things added back in) and not your taxable income. AGI is your income minus the "above the line deductions". It's essentially the box 1 on your W2 plus any other income (interest, dividends, c...

Re: Spending HSA money versus other

So does this mean that I can take tax-free withdrawals for substantiated medical expenses from years before the existence of my HSA , years when I didn't itemize and took the standard deduction? Please tell me this is true!!! Only expenses incurred after the opening of your HSA can be reimbursed. A...

Re: How long does Capital One Investing take to process a transfer out?

This thread is timely for me. I mailed my paperwork yesterday for transferring from Capital One Inv. to Vanguard. I was unaware of them not transferring the fractional shares - does anyone know if they charge the $6.95 for selling the fractional shares for each holding? Ask them if you can get a fe...

I have Principal as well with the same funds except the ERs in my plan are worse (.90 vs her .55). I put 90% into S&P 500 and 10% into Small Cap. I balance my AA in other accounts.

Re: PA residents with a 529, do you use the 529 plan sponsored by the state?

I did the same as abuss368 - started out with the PA 529 plans and when I learned that non PA 529 plans were state tax deductible I moved over to the Vanguard / Nevada plan. I'm still using the PA 529 plan for my one child who is currently in college and myself (pursuing Masters) but for my 9th grad...

I don't know why you are uncomfortable, though. They are codified in law. It's not something that should draw any ire in a compliance review. As much as I'd like to backdoor some Roth money - the legality of it has me worried. I'm a contractor for the agency that the forms are submitted to While I'...

Should I contribute to 401k or Taxable?

Hello all - thanks in advance for any advice. My company was recently acquired and my new 401k options are less than stellar. I've been maxing out my 401k with my previous company but after doing some thinking I've changed some things up and am now undecided on what to do with my 401k. My wife will ...

Do you know the investment options you have available to you via Aspire? I was in the same situation as you - excited about my wife's 403b option with Aspire - found all of the investment options available, opened the account and only after opening the account was it revealed that only 10 or so opti...
