Re: TSP Loan vs Credit union Loan

Being in the military I'm more than aware what TSP is...most credit unions like Navy Federal, etc you can do better than 2.5%...

Go to Lightstream unsecured auto loan 2.19%.
Digital Credit Union is 2.24%

2.5% is easy to beat so why do that?

Unless you have bad credit, why would you do this? And TSP charges $50 for the loan....this makes no sense, just take a vehicle loan..what am I missing? Do you not have a job (source of income), basis of repayment, or bad credit and can't get the lowest rates...

So the best part about NFCU is that for child/parent joint accounts (minor/adult) they report in the SSN of the child...so I have 2 children..I max both out...each child is a joint owner with me on one and due to the $1050 per child interest exemption (Kitty tax stuff) it is essentially tax free.......

It's a simple math problem...research the residual for the car (ALS could be a good reference or just google it). Then say to yourself..100% - that % times MSRP for $125 per year..minus deductible...do I want it or not... If the car is worth 35% at 48 months and car is totaled w a $500 deductible th...

One thing to think about is for those folks that like programs like Chase Private Client, etc (high priced concierge programs)..if you do it first of year..just buy an ETF and pay the $20 and no other fees from those programs...that's the cheap way of doing those programs.

In today's low interest rate environment, you aren't going to be able to get inflation yield with 5%-10% risk. If I were you, I'd just find an online decent rate CD and have zero chance of loss and take my low interest and move on. Make sure you are FDIC insured appropriately.
