Re: 150k into Fixed income, CD ladder a good choice?

Ladders are too much hassle. Just put the $$ into a bunch of 5-year Ally CDs at 2.25 percent. The early withdrawal penalty is only 60 days on the off-chance you need some of the money, or rates go up substantially - and you'll probably still be ahead. I was thinking of the Goldman Sachs 3yr 1.9% Ar...

150k into Fixed income, CD ladder a good choice?

Hi, I need to invest 150k into a cd, I understand the principle of laddering CD's but I don't want to go out further then 3yrs because of rising interest rates, and when I do the math it just seems like its not worth it to ladder and seems better to just put it all into a 3yr CD and forget about the...

Quick Questions about CD's (3m vs 1yr)

Hi, I think there is something I'm misunderstanding with this, would appreciate some feedback as I am new to CD's: Bank A Offers 1.4% on a 1 yr CD Bank B Offers 1.2% on a 3m CD On a $50,000 investment after 1 year: Bank A: $700 interest at maturity. (1.4% of 50k) Bank B: $600 interest at maturity af...

Re: house or condo for a frequent traveling family?

I thought houses were always a much better investment then condos, could you be a little more specific about the differences in how they appreciate? thanks! It's hard to be specific but in general there is no hard and fast rule that says houses appreciate at a different rate than condos. All reside...

Re: house or condo for a frequent traveling family?

Does your family travel with you? Condo's don't necessarily appreciate less than single family homes by the way. Thank You for all the feedback, my family does travel with me so the 'lock and leave' does seem very appealing. I thought houses were always a much better investment then condos, could y...

Thank you all very much for the constructive answers. I decided to take the advice from all of you and just buy more VTSAX. Re: expense ration and management fees of same fund vanguard vs etrade

Maybe ETrade is referring to the expense ratio, which contains the fund management fee. Does this number match? 0.35% https://personal.vanguard.com/us/funds/snapshot?FundId=0053&FundIntExt=INT#tab=3 Paul No, it lists both the expense ratio 0.35% and a management fee 0.32%. The management fees a...

Thanks Paul, I'll check it out.

The Management fee I am referring to is found under 'Fees and Expenses' tab on E-trade. I don't see anything like that when I look it up on Vanguard.

Re: 300k to invest for the long term, am I on the right track?

Accounts. You state that you are in the 10% federal tax bracket. I suggest immediately opening a Roth IRA at Vanguard and immediately contribute $5.5k for your year 2016 contribution. You can make a contribution for 2016 anytime before tax day 2017. So do this right away, don't wait for the last mi...

Re: 300k to invest for the long term, am I on the right track?

It's great to see that you have no debt. You will first have to make a decision about asset allocation before selecting funds to use. At age 28 50% in bonds is very conservative. At age 28 I usually would suggest around 20-25% in bonds. I usually suggest around 20-30% of stocks in international sto...
