Cadets receive a monthly stipend of roughly $1,000 a month, from which they must buy lots of expensive uniforms, books, computers, etc. Our fine young cadet here is probably managing the stipend carefully such that there is some left for investing. If that is the case, my hat is off to him/her.

I have had to get signature guarantees quite a few times over the last several years at Vanguard's request. Lately, however, it seems that for certain situations one can avoid it by having in place Vanguard Voice Verification. At least that is my experience and I am grateful for the simplicity.

I also think it unlikely that you will be able to roll your 401(k) to an IRA until you cease employment with your current employer.

I think it makes lots of sense to invest your first dollars in a low-cost IRA up to the IRA maximum. Then any additional dollars would go into your 401(k).

I have had both companies and currently have Amica. No claims with either company.

Amica has certainly been much more enjoyable to deal with.

Still, for a 25% savings, I would personally go with State Farm.
