Re: 403b Loan or reduce contribution for home purchase?

PLEASE do not make the same mistake I made. Make sure you know your policy. Your agent(s) may misguide you like mine did. I borrowed $10,000 from my 403b after checking with multiple people (my financial advisor and the agents at the company) about fees and paying back early. Two years later, I deci...

Re: Help me understand how to compare stocks

Thank you! I've made a lot of mistakes when it comes to investment. I've been trying to be on the right track ever since I know about Bogleheads, but I'm still not there yet due to unpaid loans.

Re: Cost of Dental Implant

Have you looked into dental schools? The most honest evaluations and cost effective work I've had have been at a dental school. Mind you, all I had were cleanings and fillings. Thanks for the suggestion. I will check it out. UCSF - "one or two implants in the back of the mouth" University...

Re: Cost of Dental Implant

Again, many thanks to those who have replied. From your replies, I'm collecting questions to ask the dentist during consultation and what to look for when researching. "They range from 15k-50k per arch." :( 50K for the entire thing is already out of my range. I can't even imagine 50K per a...

Re: Cost of Dental Implant

I've checked out Affordable Dentures & Implants. None of them seems to offer implant with screwed-in dentures (permanent kind). They only offer implant with snap in dentures. Their prices varies from office to office. ~ $1,000 to $1,400 per implant + add-ons. You're looking at $10K-$12K. http://...

Cost of Dental Implant

Hi, Without dental insurance, how much should I expect to pay from start to finish for All-on-4/6/8 dental implant? All teeth have been removed. I saw some reviews on Yelp mentioning $50K. Is that on the high side? Average? The dentists I have called are not willing to give me a price range unless I...

Re: Use cellphone tethering instead of home internet?

With Comcast, make sure you're on a promotional rate at all times. Comcast Performance (25 Mbps), not Performance Starter, can be had for $29.99/month. I find sending them a message via Facebook works well. How do you do that? Once you've been a customer, they don't seem to offer promotional pricin...

Re: Need help: reading a 403b statement & allocating funds

It looks like you are required to make payments as a salary reduction. Is that the case? Are you OK with the loan repayments as well as $1000 per month 403b and 457 contributions? (Defaulting on a loan causes the principle to be taxed at your income tax rate. In addition the IRS hits you with a 10%...

Re: Need help: reading a 403b statement & allocating funds

When you say "I borrowed from my current accounts for my down payment. Can I move my previous contributions to Direct Invest without repayment or being hit with a fee?” , are you saying you borrowed from the Security Benefit 403b for a down payment on you home? Or did you borrow from your NLG ...

Re: Need help: reading a 403b statement & allocating funds

I’m afraid I’m a bit confused. The statement is from Security Benefit, and you have stopped making contributions to this 403b account. Is that correct? Are you signed up to make contributions to the NLG 403b now? Have you signed papers to transfer the 18.5k from SB to NLG? How much have you contrib...

Re: 403B providers [how to choose]

State St Trust - CALSTRS is a provider on the list. I don't know if it's the CalSTRS Pension 2 I've been seeing in some of the posts. I do have access to 457b. However, VALIC is the only approved provider at this time. I have registered with 403bwise, but I am not allowed to post yet.

Re: 403B providers [how to choose]

Thank you for answering my questions and the suggestion of NEA/Direct Invest via Security Benefit and State St Trust - CALSTRS. The links to the previous posts are very helpful. Valic is our district's third party administrator. I've heard complaints about Valic from my co-workers.

403B providers [how to choose]

Hello, Although I have been reading up on 403b and 457b, I am still very clueless. Currently, I have accounts with National Life Group and Security Benefit, but those accounts don't earn as much as what I have read. I was expecting at least 3% to cancel out inflation. One account gained less than 2%...
