Rental Security Deposit - Interest

Another rental - related question ... In my state (NJ), I am required to pay interest earned on my tenant's security deposit back to my tenant. I am now getting ready for that tenant to move out (so getting ready to return the security deposit shortly). I don't have a problem doing this, as I've bee...

Landlording....

I'm sure folks on here have had their stories as a landlord. I'm in the process of finalizing my decision to remove my tenant from my property... Her lease is up, and now she's month-to-month. She's consistently paid late for the last XXX months (i.e. I don't even remember) and lately makes it seem ...

Mortgage pay-off?

I have a mortgage for an investment property I own. The mortgage is a very small amount, and I'm wondering/curious if I can use my IRA money to pay-off the mortgage?

Could I make a loan form my IRA to myself for the mortgage? (in effect, pay back my IRA rather than a bank)?

New(er) car Financing Options

I have somewhat a no-brainer of a question, but in-case I'm overlooking something, I did want to run it by my Boglehead friends... Recently moved to the suburbs ...so now own a house (and kept my condo in the city area to rent out!)... and now have a need for a 2nd car (for my wife). Looking at a fe...

Insurance!

Hi - I have several properties through the years (i.e. when I moved for job/work, I continued to hold on to these properties as rental properties). I currently insure each one separately and was primarily looking for the best price at the time for that specific property. My homes are spread across 2...

Home Purchase

Now that I'm under contract - I feel like my realtor is not part of the equation much. I was wondering what things I could work on with the realtor while the bank/lawyers finalize closing information. (I've been given the "clear to close" by the banks, so now in the waiting game to line up...

Mortgage Escrow

Hi - I will have an Escrow shortage soon. I changed homeowners insurance (to a lower price), and the original insurance company refunded me the remainder of the policy via check. My new insurance company also billed the escrow, so I know my escrow will be short. Now that I've received the check, do ...

Hi - I've been using a CPA for a number of years.

Re: Interview Follow-up

+1 on the don't have to have questions to follow up... you should follow up to thank everyone you interviewed with for their time and consideration as well as expressing your continued interest for the role. Potentially throw in a few things you learned and highlight again why you think you'd be a ...

Interview Follow-up

Hi all, I've been actively interviewing lately in the hopes of a career change (from the consulting world) to an internal consulting role at a fairly large company. I've been through 2 rounds of interviews so far (1st round was with just the hiring manager, and the 2nd round was with 4 different sen...

Hi all - I've recently been notified that I'm the best match for a patient for a Peripheral Blood Stem Cell donation. In fact, I'm lining up dates with the donation center in parallel to this thread. Job Change(s)

Hi all, Looking to get some feedback / sanity check from fellow boglehead members. I recently left a fairly lucrative and "fun" job as a management consultant in the energy industry after about 3 years. The main reason was to be at home (i.e. non-travelling) prior to the arrival of our fir...

401k - rollover?

Hi all, I recently switched jobs, and as a result, have some money in a 401k plan that I think I will roll-over to an IRA. Before doing that, I wanted to solicit feedback... as to why I should roll-over? (In my previous job-switch, I merely rolled-over because "it was a good thing to do" w...

Re: Whole Life Insurance vs. 401k Contributions

Thanks all for your candid feedback. Luckily, I'm asking these questions all beforehand, so haven't taken any action yet. This is good feedback. My only "interest" in the insurance policy is to use that as a loan vehicle (i.e. cash value) for future investments (real estate, etc.). Underst...

Thanks all. There are many nice cars out there, I'm just a little disapointed that there aren't many non-leather options available in the luxury market. BMW X3 vs Mercedes GLK350

Hi, My wife and I are looking to purchase a 'small luxury SUV" shortly. We prefer a non-leather seating option, so are limited to the BMW and Mercedes options with leatherette. We've narrowed down to the X3 and the GLK350 , and are having a tough time narrowing down between both. BMW includes 4...
