Does my Honda CRV need servicing?

Back in May 2013 I purchased a new 2012 Honda CR-V. I love my CR-V and want to make sure I keep it well maintained. The dealer I bought the CR-V from is different than the dealer I use for servicing. With this Honda model a service wrench maintenance minder logo appears on the odometer area and incl...

Time for a new laptop?

Been having problems with my Toshiba laptop for awhile now. Laptop is around 5 years old and running Windows 7. Downloaded Windows 10 last summer and seems that is when my problems began. Needed to hire a tech pro to resolve issues from my deleting Windows 10. Recently, in trying to resolve printing...

Re: Another battery question

Back in July I posted a question as to why I needed 3 auto batteries in less than five years. Based on the many responses I concluded that lack of use of my vehicle was the cause of the short battery life. I am retired and my 2003 Ford Ranger sits in the driveway most of the time. To correct this l...

Paint vs. Stain on fiberglass door

Looking to install new fiberglass exterior front door. Door is unfinished shiny white and was wondering if there is a difference in painting it versus staining it. The manufacturers instructions says you can paint or stain the door, but does not give a preference. Love to know if any Bogleheads have...

Re: Auto Battery

Thanks for all the info contribution. I am always amazed as to the amount of technical knowledge shared by bogleheads. A few gave a clue as to what the problem might be. As I said my original battery lasted around 10 years but at that time I was working full time and driving over 100 miles per day. ...

Auto Battery

Just replaced my Interstate Battery for my 2002 Ford Ranger. This is my 3rd Interstate battery in less than 5 years. I believe the original battery lasted about 10 years. All batteries i have purchased have 5 year warranty. My mechanic does not have explanation for short life. I understand Interstat...

Re: How Does Fed Reduce Balance Sheet?

Just want to thank all who spent a few minutes to explain how it works with the Fed redeeming bonds. Sifting through all the replies I gather that the Fed borrows cash from the Treasury and used it to do the QE program. Then that would explain how the Feds balance sheet can be reduced by returning t...

How Does Fed Reduce Balance Sheet?

As a result of it's Quantitative Easing program the Federal Reserve has substantially increased it's balance sheet. Now the Federal Reserve is looking to reduce its balance sheet by a few trillion. Not sure if my current musing falls into this investment forum but for the life of me, I cannot figure...

Re: Distribution from IRA

I have been procrastinating about closing out my funds with relatively small balances. Since I began contributing to a Roth IRA my smaller funds never grew in principal. Having someone look over my shoulder gives me motivation to close out these funds. Thanks for the comments.

Distribution from IRA

I have been contributing to my IRA for over 30 years and in that time I have accumulated 6 individual mutual funds with Fidelity. Total value is around $700K. Approximately 80% of my investments are in the Growth & Contrafund with the balance in income funds. I will have reached the 70 1/2 year age ...
