Does such a tool exist?

My wife and I have: Me: 401k and IRA Wife: 401k Is there a tool that once you set the primary unified Portfolio Target allocation percentages (Stocks (Domestic, Intl, Small/Large, etc. & Bonds, etc.), that it will calculate what percentage needs to be allocated for each fund within each respecti...

Re: Fund Return vs. ER comparison?

What would be really interesting is a plot of fund return vs. fund expense for all available funds over a 10 year period. - This would be great! betablocker, that is interesting information. I don't know that given my situation I really need to dig in that far, but I think it's interesting enough f...

Fund Return vs. ER comparison?

I'm interested in trying to figure out what the final return would be from a fund with a higher ER vs a lower ER. ...and, how one could figure out how much more a more expensive ER fund would have to earn to at least break even with a lower cost ER fund. This inter-play between the Return % vs. ER %...

Re: Company's 401k junk and Trad IRA languishes - I want to fix now!

Just an update/recap: I sold the Sirisu/XM & Ford stocks in my Scottrade tIRA and then transferred all the monies into a Vanguard tIRA and then bought VTSAX Admiral shares with all of those funds. I unloaded all of my 401k's JH funds and bought up VIGAX (0.68 ER) and VVIAX (0.68 ER), splitting m...

Re: Company's 401k junk and Trad IRA languishes - I want to fix now!

it seems going the Vanguard route makes a little more sense based on the cost vs. performance vs JH funds.

I still have at least another 30 years, less would be nice to go before I start cashing out :) So, 3 year metrics are nice, but i'm in for the long haul.

Re: Company's 401k junk and Trad IRA languishes - I want to fix now!

15% Marginal Tax Rate (State/Fed) No pensions for us =\ One of the more recent asset allocation guidelines has been to take 110-120 and deduct your age = the percentage of stocks you might want to own. ruralavalon,

What ideology did you use to determine your suggested asset allocation?

So far I've liquidated the stocks in my Scottrade tIRA and will be reviewing rolling it over to a Vangaurd IRA within the next several days - still not sure yet on whether to do a tIRA or rIRA.

The Vangaurd Energy has a ER of 0.68% on JH, whereas via Scottrade it's I think 0.1-0.16%. I'll read through the wiki on the indexed funds and try to figure out how to re-balance my 401k int...
