About half of my investment is in Roth. I used Roth conversion when possible.
I have favored 100% stock allocation when possible. My wife and I have about 1.8 million in our Roth accounts.
I have often wondered how much better off I would have done if I had invested in growth instead of total market. The answer is "quite a bit better." Nevertheless, I'm sticking with the total market approach for the time being. At some future time (after the COVID-19 crisis has ended) I may experiment with a small holding in a growth index fund just to see what life would be like in the fast lane. It would definitely be chasing performance.
I have a number of COVID-19 related stocks (See GERM). Those stocks went up 7.77% Friday -- they have been performing well. If one buys an SPIA with taxable funds, they may have to pay income tax on the income.
SPIAs will have a higher payout if interest rates are high.
If one has a chronic medical problem SPIAs may not be a good buy.

Look at the medicaid rules in your state.
In the State of Washington:
The house may be kept as long as one of the couple lives there. Also a vehicle is exempt.
Income limit is $2,250 per month for the person needing care, no limit for spouse.
Asset limit is $2,000 for the person needing care, and $120,900 limit for spouse.

I use covered calls to "live on".
For example, VLO is currently at $89.48, the Mar $95 covered calls are at $0.78 corresponding to a 10% return, if the stock price doesn't change.
If the stock price goes over 95.78, then there will be a loss to buy back the options. And if the stock price drops to below $88.70, I would have been better off selling the stock.

Re: The Stock Market Is Always Risky
I believe Isaac Newton discovered stocks are risky after he lost much of his wealth from his investments.
The stock market is a gambling house and doesn't reflect on the profitability of the companies issuing stock.
Upper management and board of directors are effective of extracting money from the profits of the corporations.
Competition from other corporations can reduce the profits of a corporation when competitors can improve the quality and reduce the cost of their products.
Governments can change profitability of companies through tariffs, copyright law, and trademark law.

My wife and I retired, sold our old home for cash, moved to a milder climate and searched for a home to downsize in.
We paid the 20% down at 5% and refinanced later at 4%. We used the leftover cash for investing and some home enhancements.
I think that process worked well although we didn't find a smaller home that would have fit our needs.

I don't see the distinction between value and growth. If a company has high earnings the company will spend it on growing the company.
If a company is growing, its earnings will seem depressed because accelerated depreciation.
If a company has a very high stock price, it can issue more stock to grow its book value.
