I will be age 72 this March 1. Will I be required to take an RMD in Tax year 2024? Also my assets are 100% with VG. Is VG proactive in any way as far as letting there IRA holders that this is due? THX Your birth year is 1952, correct? People born 1951-1959 take RMDs at 73, not 72- so, no RMD for you in 2024 at age 72. Technically, your first RMD is not due until 1 April of the year after you turn 73, but if you delay into the next year, you will have 2 RMDs in 2026 & could get boosted into a higher tax bracket. Better to withdraw the RMD in 2025. https://www.irahelp.com/slottreport/ira-rmd-age-made-easy Thanks, Yes, born in 52 so no rmd till tax yr 2025. Re: VG Rep change out of the blue
I had a good relationship with my rep. Met him years ago when visiting VG headquarters as part of the Bogleheads conference that year in Phili. Met Jack at that trip over to HQ too that day. So thats why I was surprised/concerned that I wasn't even notified.Big Dog wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 8:02 pm people change jobs, change employers.
My Fido rep has changed plenty of times over the years and I rarely get notified. heck, even when our company had Fido as a 401k Administrator they rarely informed me when our account rep left. (I was Corp contact.)
Never really cared, since I rarely call them.

I want to test an RMD scenario in my tax software as I will be reaching that age next tax season.
My question is this:
Is the Dist type on the 1099R form for RMD withdrawals a 7 ?
Or some other value.

Why don't you just use Quicken? The download features stop working after it expires, but the rest of the application works. It is made for what you want to do.
I only need an app for my deposit accts and a couple credit cards so I can keep it pretty simple.

Re: Excel for Personal Finance Accounting ?
How familiar are you with excel or other spreadsheet programs? They’d do the job but there is a learning curve. You don’t just start entering numbers and it’s all done for you. You can get a template and work off that but chances are you’ll eventually run into things you want to change. Over almost 3 decades I went from quicken, to a custom database, to a collection of spreadsheets—which is where I stand now. It was definitely a Goldilocks situation for me. Quicken was great for a while but I realized that my data was essentially held hostage and they would do to me exactly what’s panned out (rent seeking, subscription crapware), so I dumped it. The custom database (FileMaker Pro) was amazing but took a lot time to develop and changes were...

Out of the blue had a Sweep Out trans for 70.57 today that appeared in my brokerage acct settlement fund trans history.
I called VG and the rep indicated that I should just ignore it as it did not affect my sweep acct bal. (which I confirmed)
So my ? was "why the entry".
Any other trans that have occurred I have been able to find the offsetting acct entry. The rep just told me to ignore it.
Is it just me or does this explanation lack any sense ???

Re: Need Advice on France for my son
The book link appears to reference a book in French but he doesn't speak French. Just now trying to learn enough to get by.

Need Advice on France for my son
My sons employer (an engineering firm in Pittsburgh) is assigning him to the parent holding Company's corporate office in Paris France for a 1 year stint.
He is 30 years old and I want to get him something to help him acclimate to his new surroundings.
Iam looking for any suggestions for books or items that could be useful for him ? He will be leaving after Xmas this year.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions ...

Re: www.portfoliocharts.com ... "The Coolest Portfolio Tool on the Web"?
What I would like to do is add my own personal comments to a blank cell in the SS regarding WHY I choose certain variables for the calculation (Retirement).
I believe I could just create a new TAB and put my notes in there. (looks like that will work - I just tried it)
Thanks
Tom
