Re: Anyone have a second home in The NC mountains?

We own a place on lake Keowee near Clemson SC. Beautiful area with lots of great hiking close by. It has a large retirement population here as the price of lake property and the cost of living is very reasonable compared to larger metro areas. Another vote for Lake Keowee. Heading there to my dads ...

Re: Extreme Maximization of College Financial Aid

This. "Oh, education is important to you. Sure a state school is good for people who don't value an "elite" education as much as you do, but then you aren't actually willing to pay for the elite education yourself. Do you think the financial aid endowments at these places are magical...

Re: retiring with a mortgage

Everyone looks at debt differently.
Reading this forum has helped me see what debt really means to me-
"a noose around my neck"

I would pass on the 30 year mortgage to start retirement. Especially if your parents have plenty of assets to live comfortable.

Re: new chapter of life started - want to save and grow money

I am in a similar situation as you. I am 35 and just finished fellowship. I have been following the whitecoat investor and bogleheads for about one and a half years. It has been a huge help to me, along with reading the WCI book and a few other recommended books you mentioned. I would highly suggest...

Re: Inevesting Mistakes or Regrets

Not doing what I could to reduce my future student loan burden through college and medical school. But very grateful to have found this site and WCI a few years ago before I started making more mistakes with money.

Re: Finally a budget revised - Goals/Priorities

Our house is in escrow. Our goals are to put as much as we can to retirement savings. We are in our 30s and no debt except mortgage debt. I know there is some fluff here so I am anticipating some of the feedback, but I think I need to hear it. :D Income 120K, Texas no state income tax Monthly bills...

Re: 403b and backdoor roth

Thank you very much for the reply! I will plan on keeping my 403b contributions for the first 6 months of 2016, maybe even increase them if I can. After 2016 my income will put me in a higher tax bracket, so I will be maxing out my pre-tax retirement accounts. Unfortunately, I will not have access t...

403b and backdoor roth

Hello! I have been reading your site for a little over a year, and am an avid reader of whitecoatinvestor.com I would love some help about a question I have. I am currently completing a one year fellowship. I have been contributing to my employer 403b as Roth (after-tax)contributions. Starting in th...

Re: Physician Compensation

If I was doing this again, especially for an employee position, I would hire an expert to review the contract. The good firms basically throw the MGMA data in for free and for some extra $$$$ will even do the negotiating for you. But this isn't your cousin the lawyer. It's someone who does physicia...
