Re: Maui Jim Sunglasses (or similar quality)

Serengeti sunglasses have metal frames and glass lenses. $120 or so, but last forever. I wear them every day and enjoy their longevity and quality.

Re: Please define "cash"

Bankers used to use the term “cash”for any accounts one could draw from a bank immediately. “Cash equivalents” were a cd, that could be drawn with some effort.

This was back in the Old Bob Cratchet days of accounting.

Re: Travel camera reviews of what you own and why?

I have traveled extensively. Last count i had been to 46 different countries. I use a “flip” camera. It shoots ultra hd video. I can use it to capture things I see on the move. Even an interesting glimpse from a train or bus. The flip can be purchased on ebay for around $150. It has a usb male plug ...

Re: Repair or replace dryer?

I say repair dryers rather than replace. Youtube shows you how. As stated, they are simple. Plus I like to take them apart, to clean out stray lint, and to rescue all those single socks!

Probably an exhaust sensor. You tube has a guy replacing back plugs on an avalon. Many parts come off, even the windshield wipers! Not difficult just time consuming. The you tube guy tells the socket sizes for each part removed.
I might even video this job as there are so many steps.

Re: Shopping for a new hot tub

I would go to a store, pick out the brand and model that i wanted. Then contact other dealers who carry that particular model and shop price and installation. Almost like purchasing an automobile. Also, can your current ht be fixed with a new pump, parts, etc?

Re: Carribean island most like Hawaii

Been to all of the caribbean islands mentioned. While on a tour in grenada, we had a lady from hawaii. She pointed out that all the plant life was the same. She pointed out the plants by name. Now...if you want less crime, I recommend bermuda or grand cayman. Otherwise all the suggestions about the ...

Re: Where/how do Bogleheads get their tires inflated?

I use a blue portable air tank, will hold about 100 lbs. I also have a large compressor, but seldom use it. Those little portable compressors "throw a rod" after a few uses. I dont carry the portable tank but use it to top off tires or in case of a flat. Live rurally so need options. Tank ...

Re: The Bogleheads' "100 Things Worth Every Penny" List

Thank you Cinghiale for starting this thread. Reisner's comments about the list is accurate. After reading the original forbes list, I realized that a majority of the things worth the moneywere thing we use daily. It made me think of quality daily use things, when I rack my brain for gifts to family...

Forbes used to publish a yearly article entitled 100 things worth the money. Listed personal items like beds, sheets, other items that truly didnt cost that much to live well. A good pillow is priceless, and yet can be affordable.

Re: Vacationing in the Caribbean

I recommend you take a cruise that covers several islands. When you dock hail a taxi and tell them you want to go to the best beach in the island per your requirements. Tell the cabbie to return at a time convenient. This is how cruise staff visit beaches. Oh by the way, let us know your analysis up...
