Re: Is structured notes sound investment choice?

Thank you for everyone's replies, especially the analysises! My hunch is confirmed that it is too good to be true. Besides, fees are not mentioned anywhere, but I'm sure there will be if I shell out my money.

Is structured notes sound investment choice?

I haven't heard about structured notes until recently. It looks like it's safer than buying sp 500 from what I read (please see below), and somehow I feel it's too good to be true. Does anyone have experience with it? What are the risks and where should one buy it? Thank you! Here is the info I got for this particular structured notes.: In the case sp 500 drops in 5 years, I get 15% hard buffer: a. If sp 500 drops 10%, I get all of my investment back; b. If sp 500 drops 20%, I lose 5%; c. If sp 500 drops 50%, I lose 35%; d. If sp 500 goes down to Zero, I get 15% back In the case sp 500 increases in 5 years, i will get 115% of sp 500's increase. a. If sp 500 goes up 10%, I get 11.5% b. If sp 500 goes up 20%, I get 23%; c. If sp 500 goes up 5...

Re: Is Vanguard Targeted Retirement Fund too risky?

Low-cost Target funds are excellent in tax-advantaged accounts. If you have both tax-advantaged and taxable accounts, many bogleheads prefer The Three-Fund Portfolio for better overall tax-efficiency.

Thank you for your reply! I have both a Roth IRA and a taxable account. My Roth has only one Targeted fund, and my taxable account has 4 funds. Is this the tax efficiency you mentioned? ThaNks!

Is Vanguard Targeted Retirement Fund too risky?

The Vanguard Targeted Retirement Fund 2040 has 90% in stock and 10% in bond. While I have heard holding the bond percentage should roughly equate to your age. So for a 40 year old, is holding 90% stock too risky?

FSA question

My husband just changed job. He enrolled in medical FSA at previous and current jobs. I just received a dental bill for services rendered in February when hubby was still at his previous job. Can I use the current FSA account to pay this bill? Thanks!

Is this the time to invest?

I recently received a large sum of cash inheritance. With stock market at historical high, I'm nervous of putting all into investment. Should I hold off, or invest a little every week?
