if the current company treats you well, and the issue is only the personnel management, why not try option 2, where you stay in the same place (no relo) have the same schedule, and approx same money? OP here. Providing an update because, well, I kind of like it when other people update their threads. As I mentioned back in December we decided to sell off the VWIUX position, with the plan of retiring the mortgage in a few lumps over the following months. Agreed. Hedges the bet either way.

And while I understand in this thought experiment all standard caveats apply, couples who have prepared this well financially probably will live a bit longer than the standard life expectancy.
