Re: Vanguard International Index Returns

No, I did not say I want to dump my allocation now that it is cheap. I said that the person we name this forum after ( John ) , does not invest in international, and I am considering making changes. Please keep the condescending comments to yourself. Thanks.

Vanguard International Index Returns

International index in year ending Oct 31, 2016 returned 1%. Last 5 years averaged 4.2%.last 10 years 1.5%. I assume this is one reason Mr. Boglehead does not invest in international index funds? I still keep a small amount in international , although I am considering changes. I would appreciate oth...

Re: I am timing the market. Why am I wrong?

I understand your concerns. The market has been up 8 years in a row. This has been the longest bull market in a very long time. It might go up for a 9 th year - no one knows. Do what you need to do to be able to sleep at night. Ben Graham said never have less than 25%, or more than 75% equities. I wo...

Re: Tony Robbins Joins Advisory Firm

If you actually read the book Robbins admits that he does NOT know as much as Bogle - that is why he interviewed Bogle, Swensen, Icahn, .. What do Bogleheads think of Swensen's portfolio ( 20% US total stock, 20 developed foreign markets, 20 US Reits, 15 long term US treasuries, 15 Tips, 10 emerging...

Re: Tony Robbins Joins Advisory Firm

Started reading Master The Game 2016 edition today.I believe Icahn, Swensen,Bogle, Dalio, Pickens, Bass,.. Know more about investing than I do.Robbins is smart because he is surrounding himself with people who are smarter than he is when it regards investing. I would appreciate Bogleheads opinions c...

Re: The last 15 years

I agree always have at least 25% bonds, but never more than 75%- that is what Ben Graham ( Warren Buffett's mentor) believed for investors of any age. I believe that when in doubt, most people can't go wrong with 50/50. You participate when markets go up, and you do not get crushed when markets tank...

Re: Age in Bonds

Merry Christmas Bogleheads: I agree with approximately age in bonds for age 25 -55. I am 54 with approximately 50/50 where I intend to stay for a long time.I agree with previous posts that once you reach retirement and age 55 you can stay at 50/50 because Firecalc assumes a 60/40 or 50/50 allocation...

Re: Investing : Bogle's current personal allocation

I am 54, and will probably be approximately 50/50 for a long time. Warren Buffett's Mentor ( Ben Graham) said " never be more than 75% equities, or less than 25% equities. Warren and Ben studied this a lot more than I have.I have observed people get burned with 100% stocks, and I have seen peop...

I would buy the print edition 2 or 3 days per week until it suddenly increased from $2 to $3 last year.I may buy it once per week now. 1 or 2 weeks ago the Saturday edition was $4 with a magazine.

Investing : Bogle's current personal allocation

Today's Charles Jaffe Personal Finance column stated that Jack Bogle said of his own portfolio: "Currently I'm 53% bonds, and 47% stocks." Very interesting. Every individual should have their own personal asset allocation based on their specific situation( ie: age, net worth, risk toleranc...

Re: Stable value funds

Thanks Dandy.I agree with your view and will split my fixed income portion 50/50 Stable Value & Total Bond Index.Do others agree with NUN that because I have a guaranteed $4,300 per Month with 3% Cola I should be more aggressive ? Others may believe that a pension means you do not have to be agg...

Re: Stable value funds

. I will consider increasing to 70/30 or 75/25.Ben Graham believed you should never have more than 75% stock, although with a guaranteed pension he may have allowed 90/10.I believe Warren Buffet said he recommends his heirs do a 90/10 stock/bond index funds. Even though I am in for long haul, I do no...

Stable value funds

My 457 Plan offers a Stable Value Fund with a guaranteed 2.3 % interest rate. Should I use this for my fixed income portion.Or, should I just use Vanguard Total Bond Index ? I am 60 /40. 60% is Vanguard Total Stock index.I am 53 and will retire next year with a public employee pension $4,300 per yea...

I am 53 and will be retiring from the Fire Dept. in Sept. I could work 3 more years, but 30 Winters fighting fires in Northern Ohio is enough. I will be living in Fla or Arizona next winter.
