Re: Best at Home Safe

Sorry to hijack the thread but also looking for one. I live in a 3rd floor apartment. I need a safe big enough and safe enough for a long rifle and paperwork. Don't want it permanent because I will be moving soon.

Re: foursquare laptop warranty for college bound daughter

Extra warranty is definitely worth it. I had a MacBook that died during my sophomore year of college. Apple replaced the motherboard, entire casing, and some other things, for free. Basically got a new laptop. Was not due to negligence, just defect. I had Squaretrade with a phone and they refused to...

Re: Selling Car - Private Sale vs CarMax vs Dealer

I sold my car on eBay last year. I had a loan on my car also. I live in MD and the buyer lived in GA. I had him mail me the money order. I cashed it, paid off my loan, got the title in the mail, then I shipped the car to GA at his expense. Wasn't too bad but I got lucky he was willing to wait for me...

Re: Chase Sapphire Preferred

I'm not closing it. I just read online that some rewards programs can give you a better value for the points than the Chase program. I have no where particular I'm looking to travel to, just want to see what my options are. Probably no more than 5 hrs from DC.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

I have a bunch of points on my CSP account. What's the best rewards program to transfer them to get the most of my money? I just want to use them to books hotels. Prefer one of the big chains.

Renting a condo but owner didn't pay property taxes

I'm renting a condo from the owner through a property management company. My lease ends on 08/31. Just got notice in the mail that the condo will be sold on June 12th by the county because the owner didn't pay property taxes. I'm doing everything I can to let them know, but since it's through a prop...

Re: Negotiating an apartment lease

I've been renting a condo from the owner through a property management company. I am just about to finish two years and am thinking about renewing for a third. It's a nice place and have had no problems with it. The company simply asked if I wanted to renew for another year lease with a rate increa...

Renters Insurance

I live in Maryland and live in 880 square foot condo with 1 bed and 1 bath. I'm renting it from the owner. Current value is around $150,000. For renters insurance, I have State Farm and pay about $150 a year. My personal property limit is $41,000, my personal liability limit is $100,000, medical pay...

Re: Why do I owe so much on my taxes?

This might be a stupid question, but is it safe to assume I should adjust my state tax allowances to be the same as my federal taxes? Is their a resource for you to simulate the state taxes based on your particular situation? Even if there is not, I cannot imagine having a state tax be much differe...

Re: Why do I owe so much on my taxes?

Thank you all for the help. It does make sense. I did the W4 calculator on the IRS website and it recommends that I have 0 allowances on my 70k job, 1 allowance on my 10k job, and 0 allowances on my third job. It does not say I should withhold any extra and this way, I'll get a refund of about $150...

Why do I owe so much on my taxes?

I am 27 years old, single, and do not own a home. I do not have any investments, etc. I use TurboTax for my tax returns and the only info I have to enter is my W-2. I have one full time job and two part time jobs. I made about 70k on my full time job and had 1 exemption. On my part time job, I made ...
