Between Vanguard, Fidelity, and Charles Schwab, which one is the best? Also, I am favoring the idea of a tIRA over a Roth IRA because I think I will probably be making more money now than in retirement.

Re: Looking to roll over my old 401k. Which IRA should I choose?
I recently switched jobs and have like $45k in my old 401k. I'm looking to open an IRA soon so that I can put in a maximum contribution for the 2018 tax year before tax day. I also plan on rolling over all of the moving in my old 401k into this IRA. I'm 31 years old. I've been watching my old 401k lose value for the last several months since the stock market has been doing poorly, so I'm looking to put it into less risky choices for now, and switching back to higher risk stocks once the stock market picks back up again. Are you sure rollover IRA is the best move for you? What is your MAGI? If you ever need to do a Backdoor Roth IRA, the rollover will make that move problematic. I make $85K a year before taxes and I have $60K saved up. Also...

Re: Which High-Yield Online Savings Account Should I Open?
Why are the reviews for online bank accounts so negative? I believe because the only people who take the time to write the reviews are the ones with the bad experiences. I have accounts at Gsbank (online savings at 1.2%) and sychrony bank (1.15%) and haven't had problems with either. I guess I should go write a review :) On one hand, you are absolutely right: outrage is a more potent driver for action than satisfaction. On the other hand, in the financial matters, occasional disasters far outweigh long periods of stability. Your online bank may have good rates, an excellent user interface and responsive personnel. But if they lock your account just when you need the funds, or impose exorbitant compounded fees that you have accidentally tri...

I have been with my current insurance company for over a decade. They happen to also be my employer. I found out that they illegally terminated my friend who had cancer due to disability discrimination, so I cannot trust this company any further. I'm looking for a new insurance company for auto, renters, and umbrella insurance. I want broad, comprehensive coverage, good website, preferably low cost.

Questions about Roth IRA
I'm 28 years old, and I want to open a 2015 Roth IRA. I was thinking I could wait until early next year to open it, but apparently that is not the case. I looked online, and I found that "Assuming your IRA was opened by Dec. 31, 2015, you have until the tax filing deadline–April 15, 2016–to make a 2015 contribution." So, it looks like I have to open it sometime within the next 2 months. I have some questions before I open it: 1) What is the best discount brokerage firm to open a Roth IRA with and why? 2) What is the best high-maintenance option for a Roth IRA? 3) What is the best low-maintenance option for a Roth IRA? 4) I want to fully max out my Roth IRA at $5,500 every year. Is it an option to auto-pay $458.33 from my credit ca...

t401k vs. r401k vs. tIRA vs. rIRA
My employer offers both a traditional 401k and a Roth 401k. I am currently contributing 5% on the traditional 401k up to the company match. I recently paid off my student loans and I want to contribute more to my retirement. I am in my late 20's, and I know the importance of investing early for retirement. I crunched the numbers, and I should be able to contribute roughly another 12% of the gross income to my retirement. This topic is about where I should invest that additional 12%. I am keeping the first 5% in my traditional 401K for the company match. Given my line of work and salary projections, I strongly believe that my salary will be higher when I retire than it is right now. I was planning on doing a Roth IRA, but that was before I w...

Which Credit Cards Offer >=$100 Back in First Few Months?
I know that the Chase Freedom card allows you to "Earn a $100 Bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in your first 3 months from account opening." What other cards offer this? Are there any better deals, which offer more than $100?
I wants a third credit card open, and I basically plan on using it to buy a PS4 and a few games (over $500) within the first few months, thus getting cash back. I currently have the Citi Double Cash Card, and a card from a regional bank with a high credit limit/long credit history.

My answer probably changes on January 1, 2016 since they are more or less the same card, but the Discover It looks nicer, which matters to some people, and there is the free Fico Credit Score each month, which is nice. The downside is not a ton of places take Discover, which is a definite downside. I also like Discover's website. If you already have a Visa or Mastercard, the Discover It is probably the better card starting in January.

Re: Which Credit Card w/ 5% Cash Back Rotating Category is B
I have chase Freedom and I did a very thorough analysis a few months ago when Chase announced future changes to the Freedom rewards program. The Freedom card gives you +10 bonus points for each purchase you make as well as giving you "+10% points on all purchases" (this basically means that you're getting 1.1% cash back as a baseline). It turns out that, on average, 30% of my rewards points came from these two bonus features. Only about 20-25% of my rewards came from the quarterly 5% categories (sometimes much lower, usually not much higher). My cashback each month ranged from 1.6% to 2.2%. Usually the 2%+ months were when I made big purchases in 5% cashback categories. But if you exclude the +10 bonus and the extra .1% cashback ...
