Re: Advice on Investment plan needed

I would make a spreadsheet with the basis and current price of each fund that is in a taxable account. This helps you know, from a tax view, where to begin to reduce the number of funds. It may take a while to unwind those. I would immediately stop automatic reinvestment of dividends in the taxable...

Re: Advice on Investment plan needed

I'm still trying to understand how best to layout an efficient portfolio but considering 75%/25% Right now I'm thinking the strategy should be: 1: Liquidate Merrill $284k CMA Taxable Funds. Long term gain 50.7k. how to minimize tax? 2: Consolidate or split funds, probably at Fidelity and/or Vanguard...

Re: Advice on Investment plan needed

Danya: It's rather complicated but 4 years ago started a pension when company began its bell curve down (should have done much earlier). Funded it to the max which is most of the Merrill IRA funds. You are showing 1.14M at Merrill, but then show 510k so that's a little confusing. You also say 2016 ...

Re: Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

Why not do self-directed at Merrill Edge? What advantage do you see at Vanguard? If you want DIY investing, don't bother with trying to compare short-term results against managed accounts. The findings will be largely irrelevant. Vanguard; the fund results. I have somewhere close to 1 million in Va...

Re: Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

I use Merrill for actively managed. I tested Fidelity managed and based on this they failed for me. I'm moving the Fidelity to Vanguard based on the short test of better returns and hopefully more trust in doing the right thing. I really don't want to manage funds myself, I manage individual stocks...

Re: Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

Pro tip: The fewer people you talk to when dealing with your money, the better the outcome will be. So how do you keep them honest? In my 30yrs of investing I've come to not trust brokers. I understand their in it to make money (with yours) not necessarily in your best interest. I've always used tw...

Merrill actively managed, moved because I was considering testing anyway and that was the incentive.

Re: Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

Thanks everyone for your comments. I agree with commenter stating saving the 1% on fees and in the long run making more. It's just unfortunate for whatever reason this was not disclosed. Odd though that were not willing to keep my account and rebate me somehow the $600 through commissions or whatev...

Re: Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

Danya, if you don't mind....a couple of questions. Over the years, comments about Fidelity advisors have generally been positive, but there have always been a few who have used sleazy tactics and who sell their clients the worst possible funds. Then the clients get hit with another round of fees/ta...

Fidelity ethics moving to Vanguard

In November 2016 Fidelity had a promotion that would give a bonus for rolling over new IRA's. I spoke with employee in local Fidelity office on doing so and I'd move 300k which would include a $600 bonus. I was told this would take about 6-8 weeks to show in my account. During this process, employee...
