Re: M1 Finance

For what it is worth, I transferred over securities from my brokerage account months ago and it went without a hitch. The iPhone app is very handy and it is easy to link a bank account for ACH deposits and transfers. I am using Wealthfront, Etrade and M1. M1 certainly gives me the most control as t...

Re: M1 Finance

M1 Finance is a member of SPIC so your funds/ETF will be insured by $500,000 in case the company goes under. The issue with M1 Finance is that they need to make money somehow. There's no guarantee that they will be free forever. Betterment increased the fee from 0.15% to 0.25%. If you have a taxabl...

Re: M1 Finance

So I recently read some posts about M1 Finance on here and went to check them out. It looks like everything I could want from a broker. No trading fees, , no AUM fees, easy re-balancing, fractional share purchases for when you get started. Their Pie system makes things like tilts incredibly easy, e...

Re: Using LastPass to Manage Passwords

Just a thought for those who want a password manager but don't necessarily trust having their passwords stored electronically. For financial websites, I do not save the actual password. Instead, I save the password last pass generates, but on the website itself I use the lastpass generated password ...

Re: Interesting ride so far - Crypto-curriencies

So what happens now with the value of BItcoin? Anyine still watching? I am glad I took profit and got my initial investment out at $15K/BTC. Now Coinbase/GDAX are completely down. So even if you wanted to sell (cash out while you still have profit) or buy (be greedy while others are fearful) you ca...

Re: Interesting ride so far - Crypto-curriencies

It is worthless. Like investing in beenie babies. Who cares that the technology is groundbreaking when anybody can copy it? I own less than $5,000 in cryptos. It is not an investment. It is purely on the expectation that there are greater fools than me who will come along to get on the bandwagon. Th...

the 1% -2% in real estate is in their model portfolios "expert pies" (moderate and moderately agressive). They don't get to 5% in real estate which is a more worthwhile tilt until you get to their "agressive" and "ultra agressive" pies: https://www.m1finance.com/investments/expert-pies You can crea...

Re: M1 Finance - now Free. Great way to rebalance

M1 Finance has announced that they are no longer charging for their investment platform. It is a very handy way to dollar cost average into a 3 Fund Portfolio (or any other portfolio of stocks and etfs) and always reinvesting dividends so that they are invested in your under-weighted/performing inv...

Re: M1 Finance - now Free. Great way to rebalance

This review covers the platform nicely. https://www.cashcowcouple.com/m1-finance-review/ It's a great offering but I will still take the approach of looking across my portfolio instead of looking at each account. So this would add a layer of complexity that I don't need. But I see that others might...

I think they are worthwhile for target date type investing. But you can also just set up a vanilla 3 fund portfolio with VTI/VXUS/BND and use them to make it super easy to invest into it.

Re: Savings Bond Question

Thank you all. I keep forgetting that these bonds have the 10,000 annual limitation! That makes it easy to just forget about the tiny interest rate differential.

Re: Savings Bond Question

Thank you for the link. I was having a lot of trouble finding anything but the composite rates!

I do hate to pay taxes. The question is do I hate to earn lower rates more. I guess I will have to crunch those numbers to see what makes sense.

Savings Bond Question

I thought I understood the IBonds, but when I look at my holdings I am confused. I thought interest rates changed twice a year. However, the issue dates and interest rates show that they changed in from April to May, from May to June from September to November. So that is three times, not two. Why i...
