Re: Is it Safe to Get Your DNA Tested?

How about just setting up a fake profile for you test and disclose your self to only those you want to disclose to?

user name, email address, even a fake drop box / p.o. box for the testing?

Re: Cruise With The Grandkids

Re: Neighbor draining onto / flooding my patio and yard daily - what can I do?

Because the concrete is right up to the property line, I think this is your problem.

My one word solution: "sandbags".

Against the fence / property line.

Re: Death in family a week before cruise

Sorry for your family's impending loss.

If you call and cancel with the cruise line now, I think the only thing you can expect back in terms of a refund are port taxes and fees.

Re: Help me reduce my capital gain from a condo I just sold...

It's after the bell has been rung; but I would have considered flipping the house to the sons at cost (a while back) and have them sell it (today) using their "sale of principal residence exclusion". My understanding is you don't have to own the house to start the 2 year residency requirem...

Yes, you'll probably get a 1099-MISC for "Amounts paid on your behalf" next January, 2018.

Re: Can she retire? How to make portfolio concentrated in one equity at least a bit less risky

I didn't see the FERS supplement ($15 - $17k? annually) to be paid from age 52 - 62 in the asset section; maybe I missed it.

Re: Should federal employee communicate 18 months to retirement?

No need to announce retirement plans... the management chain will learn eventually (about 6 mo. before) when someone notices you've been hoarding annual leave in your last calendar year.

Re: TSP beneficiaries per my will

It is my understanding the the TSP only allows a beneficiary retirement account for a spouse, anyone else would be required to take a lump sum and not allowed to roll over the balance into an IRA, even if I make them the direct beneficiary. This is unique to the TSP compared to most retirement acco...

Re: Guidance on a Sticky Estate Issue

OP stated: She had 3 adult children,so 3 heirs. I think we need to step back and see what the will actually says... Perhaps the son took care of his mom later in life and the will says something entirely different... like a life estate in the house.. The decedent made him executor for a reason I'm g...

Re: TSP to Vanguard?

The only downside of the TSP is if you do not have a spouse, and die. Your beneficiaries have to pickup their entire TSP inheritance in one lump sum; without the benefit of taking yearly RMDs.

How about telling the bank the mortgagee is dead?

I think that would blow up the assertive brothers plan, and force the sale of the home.

also forgot to add a caveat that firm only provides those services for that quoted price until December 2016. Two quick points: The chances of the tax authorities contacting you between now and December, 2016 for a 2015 return tax issue are slim; The majority of you tax planning / strategies will b...

Re: Federal Employees Group Life Insurance After Retirement

The amount of FEGLI Basic coverage is equal to one's salary prior to retirement. So even after the 75 reduction at about age 68 premium free coverage remains in effect with a death benefit equal to 25% of one's prior annual pay . If one were to have been in a higher paying role 1/4th of a years pay...
