Re: I bought a different car and my old bike rack no longer works. How should I transport my bike moving forward?

Dunno what anyone else said and I'm not gonna take the time to read 44 posts. If it's just your own bike I recommend the Saris Solo. It goes on and off your trunk in a minute, fits easily in the trunk with some spare shock cords, and is reasonably secure when properly installed and the bike is balan...

Re: Looking for Mobile MP3 Player, What Do You Use? Why?

OK so I didn't get a lot of input here, that's fine. I installed and am operating Google Play Music and I'm quite happy with it. I does the big stuff (like synching with multiple mobile devices) and the little stuff (like not adding a song to a playlist that already has it without asking) very well....

Re: Cellphone nightmare - please help

CDMA phones use the Verizon and Sprint (CDMA) networks. Start there if you get out of your contract and the phone is unlocked. AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM networks and require GSM phones....

Re: Question on When to Take Social Security

It looks like the other posters have it covered. My understanding is, that as long as your parents don't need the money early, the best strategy is to wait until 70 to claim the larger benefit, and to take the smaller benefit at FRA (age 66). I'm 62 and married, just read the Piper book, and am read...

Re: Essential Bike (bicycle) Accessories

Before I retired I commuted to work 21 miles round trip, in Ohio, for about ten years. Skimmed the prior posts, thinking about my gear.... 1) Fenders. Without them you can't ride on a wet road. 2) Lights front and rear. They are probably required by law. I use two blinkies on back. And I prefer batt...

Re: Looking for Mobile MP3 Player, What Do You Use? Why?

Penumbra thanks for the note about iTunes. I think my daughter uses it on her iPhone, so I can give it a spin. I'll check about Android compatibility. And it's funny you mention the Galaxy S4. I love my S5. I can't imagine why anyone would want a phone whose memory cannot be expanded, or battery rep...

Re: Looking for Mobile MP3 Player, What Do You Use? Why?

So from your links I'm seeing that one can create playlists, the list and tracks remain in the cloud, but the tracks can also be downloaded to your device and played from there with the playlist remaining in the cloud. Or downloaded to (and played on)multiple devices with just the one instance of th...

Looking for Mobile MP3 Player, What Do You Use? Why?

I recently ripped my entire CD collection to MP3. Almost 2000 tracks. I even took the time to tag the tracks that needed help, proper attribution, cover art, etc. I put the MP3s onto my computer, then onto my Android phone, and use an app that came with the phone, a Samsung app, to organize playlist...

Re: Is the Total US Stock Market too concentrated?

Funny to see this thread. I read it last night and will catch up with the recent posts in a minute. But I wanted to first say, late last week and early the week just ending. I sold 20% of the VTI in 3-4 of my portfolios and used it to buy RSP. RSP is an ETF that is equal-weighted in the S&P 500....

Re: 62-Year-Old has a Social Security Question

My wife will receive Social Security from her own work, about 25 years at this point but a few might not qualify as substantial. The monthly Michigan check she has received for about the last ten years, and presumably will continue to receive until her death, is not based on her own work. It is base...

62-Year-Old has a Social Security Question

First time original post here…. I’m 62, wife is 61 and I’m starting to research Social Security. I bought and read the “Get What’s Yours” Kotlikoff et. al. book thinking our situation was very much vanilla, her my full retirement benefit around $2250 month, hers around $1700 a month. We each just cl...
